“No Weapon That Is Formed against You Shall Prosper”

Each day, we face trials and setbacks in our lives. From bad weather and traffic to messy homes and sick kids, difficulties seem like they won’t stop coming. We must choose to carry on and plead with our Heavenly Father for help and to see the good in our lives. He will always answer those prayers and allow us to see our progress in the path that leads back into His presence.

“Worth … the Riches of the Whole Earth”

We often keep things of value in special places: important documents kept in a secured file or safe, dinner china in a display cabinet, or treats too good to share with kids up on the top shelf. These things are kept safe and out of easy reach for good reasons, but there are other things of value we need to make sure are always available to us. Our scriptures are one of these things.

“The Lord Requireth the Heart and a Willing Mind”

We all make mistakes as parents. Sometimes our attention is wrongly distracted from a child’s needs, or perhaps we raised our voice in anger when we should have been calm. Do we seek forgiveness from both the Lord and our children when we do these things? Do we sincerely forgive our children when they err? As the Savior Jesus Christ plainly explains in Doctrine and Covenants 64, forgiveness is a crucial component of achieving peace in the home.

“I Am with the Faithful Always”

It’s easy to wish the Lord would show us everything we need to do to be happy and successful. However, that’s not His way. Instead, we are to act under His guidance and do the things we feel would bring to pass righteousness. As He tells the saints in Doctrine and Covenants 62, do that “as seemeth you good, it mattereth not unto me; only be faithful.”

“Anxiously Engaged in a Good Cause”

We all want to arrive at our own “promised land” or “Zion” sooner rather than later. However, we cannot forget that the process of getting there is just as important as the destination itself. As we follow Jesus Christ and keep His commandments, we are changed to become more like the Savior. The trials that accompany this period of growth are essential the eternal reward of being with our families forever, for “after much tribulation come the blessings (DC 58:4).”

“A Faithful, a Just, and a Wise Steward”

In a world that revolves around money, it can be stressful to know how we can support our families and make the most of the resources we obtain. We should feel grateful to know that in the Lord’s Church, Jesus Christ provides direction on how temporal resources can be used to further His work. He instructs the saints in Doctrine and Covenants 51 to collect money, food, and clothing to help provide for each other. We also read of the commandment to build a bishop’s storehouse.

“That Which Is of God Is Light”

During times of trial and difficulty, we might want to know why we’re going through them and how we can have happy times again. We might not know all the answers right now, but we are promised that one day, we will. In Doctrine and Covenants 50:24, we read that as we “continueth in God,” the light and knowledge we receive from Him will grow “brighter and brighter until the perfect day.”

“Seek Ye Earnestly the Best Gifts”

Do you have a cherished gift from a birthday or Christmas that you’ll always remember? The Lord gives gifts to those who are ready and willing to use them to do His will. In D&C 46, we read examples of spiritual gifts that are meant to bless and teach the early saints how to grow the Church. These include the gifts of testifying of Christ, the gift of administering the Church, and the gift of having faith.

“The Promises … Shall Be Fulfilled”

The Second Coming of Jesus Christ may be far off… or right around the corner. While we don’t know when He will return in glory, we do know some of the signs preceding His coming and the promised peace that will follow. In Doctrine and Covenants 45:58-59, we are told that following Christ’s return, our “children shall grow up without sin unto salvation…. For the Lord shall be in their midst.” What greater blessing could there be than having the Lord physically present in raising our families?
