Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 8 | February 16-22 | Genesis 12–17; Abraham 1–2

Abraham lived a life of violence and peace, of trauma and healing, and of promises and faith. Through every trial, Abraham trusted in the Lord and chose to follow Him even when his world was at its darkest. He was rewarded with a covenant that encompasses all of God’s children and will last into the eternities. This covenant and its blessings are extended to our families today.

Covenants bind our families to God. When we make sacred promises and worthily live them, we will always have God’s presence with us: “I will lead thee by my hand, and I will take thee, to put upon thee my name” (Abraham 1:18). We should start now to prepare our children to make and keep these covenants so they, too, can experience the blessings of Abraham.

Come Follow Me FHE lessons include everything you need to make gospel study fun for your family! Empower your children to love the gospel with our scripture-focused lesson activities. Start your free trial now!

THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Be a Peacemaker

Scripture Study

Study Genesis 13:5-12. Think about Abraham and what he did to createpeace. In today’s world, and even in our homes, we may experience conflict and chaos. How can you be a peacemaker like Abraham? Sort the ideas in the Peacemaker, Peace Breaker activity page. Then, role-play different scenarios where you can act as a peacemaker.

Dust of the Earth

Hands-On Activity

In Genesis 13:16, you are reminded of the Abrahamic covenant, where God promised Abraham and Sarah that their descendants would be as numerous as the dust of the earth. Create Dust of the Earth Art using sand, glue, and paper. Refer to the instruction page for more details.

Coloring Covenants

Coloring Page

God made promises with Abraham. Read Genesis 15:2-6. As you color the Abraham, Sarah, and Isaac color-by-number page, discuss how we can also make covenants and promises with God. When we keep the commandments and obey Him, He fulfills His promises to us, and they are always far greater than we can imagine for ourselves.

For kids ages 1-4 at home and in nursery or sunbeams.

Follower of Righteousness

Go & Do Activity

Explain that Abraham made righteous choices even when others around him did not. He stated that he was a “follower of righteousness” (see Abraham 1:2). We can also be followers of righteousness by following the example of Jesus. With your child, create the “I Can Too” mini-book as you talk about ways you can be like Jesus. Sing “Do as I’m Doing” (Children’s Songbook, p. 276). Take turns choosing different actions as you sing the song. Explain that we can follow Jesus by doing the things that He did, like praying, helping others, and teaching the gospel.

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.

“If the Lord Be God, Follow Him”

By the time the Israelites had their third king, the nation split into two groups: the 10 tribes in the north, forming the Kingdom of Israel, and the remaining two tribes in the south, forming the Kingdom of Judah. The Lord called a mighty prophet, Elijah, to remind His people of their true King: Jehovah (Jesus Christ). Elijah testified to the people that their idol worship was taking them farther away from God.

“Hear Thou in Heaven Their Prayer”

Going from tabernacle to temple was a big deal for the Israelites. So big, in fact, that even those building the temple had to be worthy of the task. David’s sin in his lust for Bathsheba disqualified him to build the Lord’s house, resulting in his son Solomon completing it. For building the temple with a pure heart, the Lord promised Solomon that so long as he kept the commandments, “I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people” (1 Kings 6:13).

“The Battle Is the Lord’s”

The story of David versus Goliath teaches many important principles, with one being that if we try our best and have real faith in God, He will help us make the most of our efforts. Though an army was present and he was offered the king’s armor, David brought his sling and his belief that the Lord would prevail through him. It was enough: “the Lord saveth not with sword and spear” (1 Samuel 17:47) but with trust and hope.
