As we continue through Psalms, we are taught that humility is required to recognize God’s personal affection for each of His children. Heavenly Father knows each of us better than we know ourselves—our thoughts, strengths, and struggles—and offers His scriptures as a light to guide us home through life’s darkness and challenges.

We can help our children feel God’s love this week by focusing on the comforting truths that He knows them individually by name and that He genuinely cares about them. We can share the simple truths taught by the Psalmists by reminding our kids that they can pray at school for help (Psalm 116:13) or think of things they’re grateful for when they’re feeling down (Psalm 116:6). Doing so helps them gain a testimony that God’s guidance comes from a place of deep, constant love, and is always there for them.

God’s Light is Like a Lamp

Scripture Study

Learn how God’s light is like a lamp with a simple object lesson. Read Psalm 119:105 and discuss how God’s words are “a light unto my path.” As a family, share times when God’s words have helped guide your way. Then, follow up with a fun Scripture Flashlight Hunt.

Praising Him

Hands-On Activity

When we show gratitude and love for the Lord, we are praising Him. Read Psalm 146:1, 5-9 together. As a family, praise Heavenly Father through song with a fun twist. Make and assemble the Voices Dice, then follow the instructions to play. Let joy and laughter fill the room as you sing songs of praise! Together, set some goals for how you can show your love and gratitude for the Lord. Plan to put them into action this week.

Comfort and Hope Affirmations

Coloring Page

Help your children understand that the Lord offers comfort and hope. Read Psalms 102:1-2 and Psalms 103 aloud. Point out all the ways the Lord blesses and cares for us. Print the Scripture Affirmation Cards for your children and encourage them to place the cards somewhere they will see and read them often. For example, they could keep the cards in the bathroom to say while getting ready in the morning, or by their nightstand to read before going to bed. The words of God will bring your children light, comfort, and hope, helping to build their faith in Christ.

For kids ages 1-4 at home and in nursery or sunbeams.

Walk in the Light

Family Activity

Turn off the lights in the room, or go into a dark area of your home. Explain that Heavenly Father has given us light to help us make choices that lead us back to Him. This light is the gospel of Jesus Christ. Read Psalm 119:105. Explain that we find this light when we read the scriptures and listen to the words of the prophets. Set up a lighted path in your home using battery-operated tea lights. Place the “Walk in the Light” pictures along the path. Explain that when we walk in the light, we are following the teachings of Jesus. We are baptized, receive the Holy Ghost, partake of the sacrament, and go to the temple. Tell the children that when we walk in the light of His gospel, we will find Jesus. Sing “Teach Me to Walk in the Light” (Children’s Songbook, p. 177). Share your testimony of how the gospel of Jesus Christ has lit your path throughout your life.
