Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 7 | February 9-15 | Genesis 6–11; Moses 8

The phrase, “found grace in the eyes of the Lord (Moses 8:27), has at least two meanings that can bless our families. One is that Noah lived in a way that allowed the Lord to strengthen him and his family during difficult circumstances. A second meaning is that Noah discovered the peace that comes from looking at life through God’s eyes. By looking at life with an eternal perspective, Noah “walked with God, as did also his three sons” (Moses 8:27) even in a world filled with wickedness.

Though our families face trials and temptations that might draw us away from God, we can choose to see each other as a forever family right now. By living with an eternal perspective every day, we can find strength through our trials and grow closer to each other and to our Savior.

THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Build the Ark

Scripture Study

In Moses 8, we learn that Noah “prophesied and taught the things of God” (Moses 8:16). The people did not listen, which is why God sent the flood. As you read this chapter, pay attention to some of the things Noah taught the people. Unscramble those teachings in the Build the Ark Scramble Puzzle. Discuss how these things help us build up our own personal arks or protection against evil.

Animals in the Ark

Hands-On Activity

To help the scriptures come to life, grab two paper plates, the printable animals, and follow the instructions for the Noah’s Ark Craft. Read the story of Noah’s Ark in Genesis 6-9 and use your craft to help tell the story. Talk about why God sent the flood and why Noah and his family were saved.

Rainbow Snacks

Surprise Activity

For a tasty (and scripture-related) treat, make Noah’s Ark Banana Boats or Rainbow Snacks. Discuss the things that you have learned from the story of Noah and what you can do to follow Noah’s example. For a fun and silly discussion, talk about the animals you would put on your ark if you had to build one.

Toddler Bundle Lessons & Activities

For kids ages 1-4 at home and in nursery or sunbeams.

Animal Matching

Hands-On Activity

Teach that Noah was a prophet who told the people to repent, but they did not listen. God warned Noah that the wicked people would be destroyed by a flood. Noah built a large ship called an ark and gathered two of every kind of animal. Read Genesis 6:19-20. Because the people did not repent, a great flood came upon the Earth. Noah and his family were safe on the ark. Play the Noah’s Ark Bag and Matching Game with your child. Talk about the different animals that were on the ark. Sing verse three of “Follow the Prophet” (Children’s Songbook, p. 110). Share your testimony that when we listen to the prophet and repent, we will be blessed, just like Noah and his family.

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.

“The Lord Looketh on the Heart”

Have you ever been jealous of your neighbor? The Israelites sure were. They wanted a king to rule over them as other nations had, believing that life would be better and more secure. However, when Israel’s prophet prayed about having a king as a leader, the Lord responded that the people’s jealous desire was actually a rejection of Him as their true King: “they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them” (1 Samuel 8:7). Their need for what others’ possessed had decreased their faith in Him.

“My Heart Rejoiceth in the Lord”

The Lord loved His people, the children of Israel. We read in Ruth that His love wasn’t just for the nation as a whole, but for each person individually who kept their covenants. Ruth is an example of a convert to the faith who trusted in the Lord to keep her and her mother-in-law safe during a famine. Ruth’s loyalty to God helped her see His blessings in her life and trust that even in an uncertain world, good things would come.

“The Lord Raised Up a Deliverer”

What does the perfect parent look like? Is it someone who never yells? Who is always present with their children? Maybe it’s someone who cooks food that the kids never complain about. The Book of Judges teaches us that even with specific rules and expectations, the children of Israel had a habit of returning to sin and idolatry time and time again. Even after they sinned or complained yet again, the Lord always invited them to start new and return to Him.
