Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 10 | March 2-8 | Genesis 24–33

Abraham’s posterity was promised many blessings of eternal significance, but that didn’t mean everything would be perfect. His grandsons, Jacob and Esau, fought over who should inherit their father’s birthright. Relatives lied to and tricked each other. The prophet’s very own family was dysfunctional, yet that didn’t stop those who were righteous from striving to follow Jesus Christ.

We choose to follow the Lord as we live His teachings. No matter what kind of dysfunction each of us has in our homes, living the gospel of Jesus Christ can bring us real moments of peace. Just as Jacob felt the presence of the Lord in his trials, keeping our covenants will help us more often proclaim, “the Lord is in this place” (Genesis 28:16).

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Family Tree

Scripture Study

Study the story of Jacob and Rachel in Genesis 29: 1-20. Laban, Rachel’s father, was dishonest with Jacob, making him work for many years to earn his right to marry her. Would you work hard or sacrifice time for your family? Our families are very important to us. Use the Family Tree to see how generations before you sacrificed for all you have today. If you can, call your grandparents to thank them for their hard work for your family and promise to do the same as you carry on the family legacy.

FAST activities

Hands-OnActivity

It’s time to have some Fun, Awesome Scripture Time! These FAST activities will get you up and moving while enjoying scriptures in Genesis. Coloring Covenants

Coloring Page

In the book of Genesis, the Lord reveals to Rebekah that her two sons, Esau and Jacob, will become the fathers of two nations. One will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger: one strong and one weak. Read Genesis 25:23 as a family and discuss the importance of the term “two nations” and what it means. Then, color the Genesis 25:23 coloring page and reflect on the importance of learning about ancient prophets and their lives.

Rebekah at the Well

Family Activity

Abraham sent his servant to find a wife for Isaac. The servant traveled a long distance with ten camels. He prayed to Heavenly Father for help in finding the right woman for Isaac. At a well, the servant waited for a maiden who would give him water to drink and also water his camels. Rebekah came to the well, gave the servant water, and watered the camels, too. The servant knew she was the one Heavenly Father had chosen for Isaac. Share your testimony about how Heavenly Father helps us when we pray. Then, play the camel matching game!

“Be Strong and of a Good Courage”

Most of the Israelites heading into the Promised Land had been born in the wilderness. Few remembered the treacherous journey across the bottom of the Red Sea, yet all would experience the miracle again as they crossed the Jordan River on dry ground. This time, however, it was not a crowd of fleeing former slaves who worshipped golden calves. It was the camp of Israel, a covenant-making people who had proven their faithfulness to the Lord.

“Beware Lest Thou Forget the Lord”

Moses taught that faith is best nurtured through the natural rhythms of family life rather than through formal lessons alone. He commanded parents: “Thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way” (Deuteronomy 6:7). Integrating gospel conversations into daily activities helps our children guard against “forgetting the Lord” during times of ease and prosperity.

“Rebel Not Ye against the Lord, Neither Fear”

Moses did not have an easy time being the Israelite’s prophet. From constant squabbles amongst the people to outright apostasy against the Lord, there was plenty of drama he had to deal with. As a prophet, Moses knew what the Israelites could be if they stayed faithful. He told Joshua it would be less of a struggle if everyone could see what the Lord had shown him: “would God that all the Lord’s people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his spirit upon them!” (Numbers 11:29).
