The Fall of Adam and Eve

Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids

Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 4 | January 19-25 | Genesis 3–4; Moses 4-5

Parenting is not easy. The experiences of Adam and Eve show that being a parent has never been without trials and heartache. Yet through raising their family, they learned true happiness comes as we try to follow Jesus Christ. Eve said without the pain that had happened in her life, she “never should have known good and evil, and the joy of our redemption, and the eternal life which God giveth” (Moses 5:11).

We should not despair when we find our children, or even ourselves, not living up to our family expectations. Each opportunity to start new and make a better choice can bring us closer together and closer to God. If we seek to plainly show love in all that we do as parents, we will discover the same joy that Eve did as a mother.

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Cootie Catcher

Scripture Study

Many lessons can be learned from Cain and Abel’s experience. Read Genesis 4:1-14 as a family. Cut and fold the Cain and Abel Cootie Catcher. Discuss the questions on the inside as you learn and comprehend the principles from their relationship and offerings to the Lord.

Puppet Plans

Hands-On Activity

Create The Fall of Adam and Eve paper bag puppets to reenact the story. First, watch the video about “The Fall” included on this week’s media page. Get five paper bags and attach the puppet printables with glue. Help your children learn the importance of this event in God’s bigger plan.

Sabbath Taste Testing

Surprise Activity

Help your children recognize the gift of being able to make choices for themselves. Read Moses: 4:1-4 and pair it with the Taste Testing Activity as you discuss agency. Choose different flavors of a food item to try (ie. cookies, ice cream, etc.) while rating their deliciousness. In this activity, your children will get to experience what it feels like to not have a choice versus complete free agency.

Adam and Eve Stick Puppets

Hands-On Activity

Teach your child about Adam and Eve. Use Adam and Eve popsicle stick puppets while explaining that Adam and Eve lived in the Garden of Eden. They cared for the beautiful garden. It was full of beautiful flowers and animals. When they lived in the garden, Adam and Eve did not know good or evil while living in the garden. Heavenly Father told them that they shouldn’t eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Satan tempted them to eat the fruit. When they chose to eat the fruit, they could no longer live in the Garden of Eden. They had to leave the garden. Explain that Adam and Eve left the garden and were able to have a family. This was part of Heavenly Father’s plan, which made it possible for us to live on Earth. Explain that because of Jesus, we can live with Heavenly Father again.

“The Lord Looketh on the Heart”

Have you ever been jealous of your neighbor? The Israelites sure were. They wanted a king to rule over them as other nations had, believing that life would be better and more secure. However, when Israel’s prophet prayed about having a king as a leader, the Lord responded that the people’s jealous desire was actually a rejection of Him as their true King: “they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them” (1 Samuel 8:7). Their need for what others’ possessed had decreased their faith in Him.

“My Heart Rejoiceth in the Lord”

The Lord loved His people, the children of Israel. We read in Ruth that His love wasn’t just for the nation as a whole, but for each person individually who kept their covenants. Ruth is an example of a convert to the faith who trusted in the Lord to keep her and her mother-in-law safe during a famine. Ruth’s loyalty to God helped her see His blessings in her life and trust that even in an uncertain world, good things would come.

“The Lord Raised Up a Deliverer”

What does the perfect parent look like? Is it someone who never yells? Who is always present with their children? Maybe it’s someone who cooks food that the kids never complain about. The Book of Judges teaches us that even with specific rules and expectations, the children of Israel had a habit of returning to sin and idolatry time and time again. Even after they sinned or complained yet again, the Lord always invited them to start new and return to Him.
