He Has Sealed His Mission and His Works With His Own Blood

Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids

Week 49 | November 22 - November 28

We have multiple Come Follow Me subscriptions and multiple activities in each subscription to help you find what works best for your family. Our goal is to help families come closer to Christ and we’ve worked really hard on providing more options to help achieve our goal.

Toddler Come Follow Me Activity

Teach your child that Heavenly Father calls prophets to teach us what we need to know and what we need to do to return to live with Him. Through Joseph Smith, Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ restored the gospel. Read D&C 135:3. We can live like Joseph Smith by keeping the commandments and helping others. Play the “Treat Walk Game” as you listen to the song “Praise To The Man” (Hymn #27).

This week we wanted to pay tribute to Joseph Smith’s Life. To do this we created the Joseph Smith Timeline. The timeline spells his name and depicts his legacy. Each letter will have a few suggested activities your family can complete. Pick an activity that best fits the needs of your family to do with each added photo. We suggest hanging each timeline card up in your home as a beautiful review of our Doctrine and Covenants Study. Below are a few of the activities included in this week’s materials.

Letter J, Activity #2:

Joseph was brought up in a small log cabin. Using Lincoln Logs, create a small log cabin. Scan the QR code on your lesson plan page to watch a short video of a tour of the Smith home.

Letter O, Activity #3:

Review the importance of prayer. Sing the song “I Pray In Faith” on page 14 of the Children’s Songbook. Challenge family members to pray everyday. Use the “Prayer Chart” to track your prayers this month.

Letter P, Activity #1

Teach that restore means to bring back. Show your family a clean penny (this represents the priesthood when Christ was on the Earth). Show a dirty penny (this represents the changes other religions made to the priesthood and it being taken from the earth). In a shallow bowl, place 1/4 cup of white vinegar and 1 teaspoon of salt. Mix until it’s dissolved. Place the penny in the bowl for 10-20 seconds on each side. Pull it out and notice the change. Just like this penny was restored to be shiny, Joseph Smith restored the priesthood.

Letter M, Activity #3

Create the “Temple File Folder Game.” Let the children match the puzzle pieces as you listen to a song about the temple.

“I Am with the Faithful Always”

It’s easy to wish the Lord would show us everything we need to do to be happy and successful. However, that’s not His way. Instead, we are to act under His guidance and do the things we feel would bring to pass righteousness. As He tells the saints in Doctrine and Covenants 62, do that “as seemeth you good, it mattereth not unto me; only be faithful.”

“Anxiously Engaged in a Good Cause”

We all want to arrive at our own “promised land” or “Zion” sooner rather than later. However, we cannot forget that the process of getting there is just as important as the destination itself. As we follow Jesus Christ and keep His commandments, we are changed to become more like the Savior. The trials that accompany this period of growth are essential the eternal reward of being with our families forever, for “after much tribulation come the blessings (DC 58:4).”

“A Faithful, a Just, and a Wise Steward”

In a world that revolves around money, it can be stressful to know how we can support our families and make the most of the resources we obtain. We should feel grateful to know that in the Lord’s Church, Jesus Christ provides direction on how temporal resources can be used to further His work. He instructs the saints in Doctrine and Covenants 51 to collect money, food, and clothing to help provide for each other. We also read of the commandment to build a bishop’s storehouse.
