Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 38 | September 15-21 | Doctrine and Covenants 102-105

Zion’s Camp was less of an army marching to liberate Missouri and more of a multi-week training in how to be a true saint. Those who showed they trusted in the Lord by following the Prophet Joseph received a massive boost to their faith, giving them strength for the road ahead: “That they themselves may be prepared, and that my people may be taught more perfectly, and have experience” (Doctrine and Covenants 105:10).

The blessings for those who followed the Prophet Joseph continued through the time of peace in Nauvoo and readied them for the trek west to the Salt Lake Valley. We can also be blessed by the choice to follow the prophet, such as heeding President Russell M. Nelson’s recent counsel to have charity and virtue in our homes. When we follow the prophet, we trust in the Lord.

I Can Keep The Commandments

Hands-On Activity

Show a picture of Jesus Christ. Explain that Jesus wants us to keep the commandments. When we are faithful in keeping the commandments, we will feel His love for us, and He will multiply our blessings. That means He will give us lots of blessings! Discuss some of the ways we can keep the commandments and read D&C 104:42. With your child, complete the I Can Keep the Commandment puzzle. Help your child glue or tape each piece into place, making the heart shape. Place the completed heart puzzle next to the picture of Jesus. Share your testimony of when you kept the commandments and felt Jesus’ love for you. Then, end by singing “I Feel My Savior’s Love.”

“To Be a Greater Follower of Righteousness”

Abraham lived a life of violence and peace, of trauma and healing, and of promises and faith. Through every trial, Abraham trusted in the Lord and chose to follow Him even when his world was at its darkest. He was rewarded with a covenant that encompasses all of God’s children and will last into the eternities. This covenant and its blessings are extended to our families today.

“Noah Found Grace in the Eyes of the Lord”

The phrase, “found grace in the eyes of the Lord (Moses 8:27), has at least two meanings that can bless our families. One is that Noah lived in a way that allowed the Lord to strengthen him and his family during difficult circumstances. A second meaning is that Noah discovered the peace that comes from looking at life through God’s eyes. By looking at life with an eternal perspective, Noah “walked with God, as did also his three sons” (Moses 8:27) even in a world filled with wickedness.

“The Lord Called His People Zion”

In less than one generation, the world God created was filled with wickedness. One exception was Enoch, a prophet who taught his people how to live the gospel of Jesus Christ. As Enoch talked with God, he was amazed to see that the Divine Creator would cry at the fall of His children: “How is it thou canst weep?” (Moses 7:31). God responded, “They are the workmanship of mine own hands” (Moses 7:32). He was sad because each child of God is precious to Him. He grieves for each one of us when our choices take us away from Him.
