Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 39 | September 22-28 | Doctrine and Covenants 106-108

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is organized according to the Lord’s instructions, as detailed in this week’s reading in the Doctrine and Covenants. One of the ways we can apply the Lord’s guidance in these sections to our families is to establish councils within our homes. We should, with our children, “sit in council with them, and to teach them their duty, edifying one another” (D&C 107:85).

Holding councils within our families allows us to live after the manner of God. Jesus Christ explained that family matters “are to be made in all righteousness, in holiness… meekness and long-suffering… and charity” (D&C 107:30). If we work through difficulties in life as a family, we will be all the more prepared to live as a family throughout eternity.

THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Priesthood Blessings

Scripture Study

Read D&C 107:42-50 as a family. As you read, keep a list of all the different family members Adam ordained on the Priesthood Ordination sheet. Count all the names after you finish reading. Talk about why Adam would want to share the priesthood with his family. Then share ways your family has been blessed by the priesthood.

Sharing is Serving

Go & Do Activity

Talk with your family about the priesthood. Read D&C 107:22 and discuss what it means to support our church leaders. Then, deliver a nice note to one of your ward leaders using the printable cards included with the lesson.

Covenant Blessings

Hands-On Activity

Read D&C 108:3. Using the Carefully Living My Covenants Brings Blessings activity, review the covenants you made or will make, and how you can “bee” more careful with your vows and “bee” a covenant keeper. After discussing how you can be covenant keepers, let each person make a bee craft.

For kids ages 1-4 at home and in nursery or sunbeams.

I Can Keep The Commandments

Hands-On Activity

Play “Family Scavenger Hunt” by writing the names of everyone in your family on separate slips of paper and putting them in a hat or bowl. Have your child pick a name and find a picture of that family member in your home. While looking at the picture, have your child share something they love about each family member. Make sure you share something, too! Repeat the process until all the names have been picked. Teach that Heavenly Father also loves your family very much. He wants your family to have the blessings of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Heavenly Father restored His priesthood to the earth to bless families. Talk about ways the priesthood blesses families. For example, temple sealings, baby blessings, priesthood blessings when we are sick or need guidance, etc. Share an experience of a time that the priesthood blessed your family. Show your child pictures of baby blessings or baptisms of family members.

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.

“Be Strong and of a Good Courage”

Most of the Israelites heading into the Promised Land had been born in the wilderness. Few remembered the treacherous journey across the bottom of the Red Sea, yet all would experience the miracle again as they crossed the Jordan River on dry ground. This time, however, it was not a crowd of fleeing former slaves who worshipped golden calves. It was the camp of Israel, a covenant-making people who had proven their faithfulness to the Lord.

“Beware Lest Thou Forget the Lord”

Moses taught that faith is best nurtured through the natural rhythms of family life rather than through formal lessons alone. He commanded parents: “Thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way” (Deuteronomy 6:7). Integrating gospel conversations into daily activities helps our children guard against “forgetting the Lord” during times of ease and prosperity.

“Rebel Not Ye against the Lord, Neither Fear”

Moses did not have an easy time being the Israelite’s prophet. From constant squabbles amongst the people to outright apostasy against the Lord, there was plenty of drama he had to deal with. As a prophet, Moses knew what the Israelites could be if they stayed faithful. He told Joshua it would be less of a struggle if everyone could see what the Lord had shown him: “would God that all the Lord’s people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his spirit upon them!” (Numbers 11:29).
