Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 40 | September 29-October 5 | Doctrine and Covenants 109-110

March 27, 1836, was a special date both on earth and in heaven. For the first time since 70 AD, a temple of God was available for men and women to worship in. Many saints who were present for the dedication saw angels celebrating the return of temple blessings to the world. The Lord Jesus Christ shared His own joy of the temple’s completion in Doctrine and Covenants 110:6-7, when he said, “let the hearts of all my people rejoice, who have, with their might, built this house to my name. For behold, I have accepted this house…”.

Temple blessings are key to helping our families grow stronger in Christ. We can experience these blessings in our own temple service. Even if you don’t have a temple near your home, you can still help your children feel the Lord’s presence in their lives by preparing them to be worthy of temple attendance. Doing so can bless your family for all eternity.

THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Fill in the Scripture

Scripture Study

Think of all the tasks you complete in your home each day and make a list. Read D&C 110:8 and complete the Fill in the Scripture page using the word bank and pictures. Discuss ways you can incorporate this scripture and the different houses into your own home.

Best Book Covers

Hands-On Activity

Grab your old grocery bags and art supplies for a fun book cover activity! In D&C 109:7, we are counseled to read out of the best books and to gain knowledge. Gather your favorite book or two and create a Paper Bag Book Cover using a grocery bag. As you decorate, use the scripture or quotes to decorate your book cover and make it unique! The Lord loves to see us being creative and using our talents!

Salutations!

Surprise Activity

A salutation is a way of greeting or acknowledging someone or something. We read in D&C 109:9 that we should give daily salutations to the Lord. For the entire week, strive to salute the Lord in your thoughts, words and actions. Use the salutation bracelets and chart as a reminder. Keep a list, and at the end of the week, share how this challenge made you feel with the Lord.

“If the Lord Be God, Follow Him”

By the time the Israelites had their third king, the nation split into two groups: the 10 tribes in the north, forming the Kingdom of Israel, and the remaining two tribes in the south, forming the Kingdom of Judah. The Lord called a mighty prophet, Elijah, to remind His people of their true King: Jehovah (Jesus Christ). Elijah testified to the people that their idol worship was taking them farther away from God.

“Hear Thou in Heaven Their Prayer”

Going from tabernacle to temple was a big deal for the Israelites. So big, in fact, that even those building the temple had to be worthy of the task. David’s sin in his lust for Bathsheba disqualified him to build the Lord’s house, resulting in his son Solomon completing it. For building the temple with a pure heart, the Lord promised Solomon that so long as he kept the commandments, “I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people” (1 Kings 6:13).

“The Battle Is the Lord’s”

The story of David versus Goliath teaches many important principles, with one being that if we try our best and have real faith in God, He will help us make the most of our efforts. Though an army was present and he was offered the king’s armor, David brought his sling and his belief that the Lord would prevail through him. It was enough: “the Lord saveth not with sword and spear” (1 Samuel 17:47) but with trust and hope.
