Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 29 | July 14-20 | Doctrine and Covenants 77-80

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is God’s kingdom on the earth, but it didn’t just appear out of nowhere. As the Church grew from a few members to millions, God gave wisdom to men and women “for a permanent and everlasting establishment and order unto my church… to the salvation of man, and to the glory of your Father who is in heaven” (Doctrine and Covenants 78:4). Just as with the early saints, we are led along by His hand in bringing the gospel to the world. We can always trust in Him to guide us in all things.

Come Follow Me FHE lessons include everything needed for a joyful scripture study with your family! Teach your children to love learning about Jesus Christ with our gospel-focused lesson activities. Start your free trial now!

THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Break the Code

Scripture Study

Let children use the Break the Code to learn about this week’s focus. After they have broken the code, discuss “Be of good cheer, I will lead thee along.” What does that mean to you? How can you let the Lord lead you along? Then play Follow the Leader. Let each child have a turn being the leader.

Things in Thankfulness

Hands-On Activity

Learn about receiving “all things in thankfulness” by acting out being ungrateful and grateful after receiving a gift. Read D&C 78:18-19 and ask, “What does the Lord promise us if we receive ‘all things in thankfulness’?” Discuss some ways we can show Heavenly Father we are grateful for His blessings.

Go Ye Game

Surprise Activity

Read D&C 80 together. Emphasize “Go ye, go ye and preach my gospel.” Play the Go Ye Red Light, Green Light Game. After your game, discuss how we can go and share the gospel. Then brainstorm ideas of how you can share the gospel this week.

Grateful For God’s Creations

Go & Do Activity

As a family, go on a walk and look at all the amazing things God has created for us. Collect some of those things to make a “creation collage.” After your walk, explain that God created this beautiful Earth because He loves us. We can show our gratitude for this blessing by taking care of the Earth. When we see all of God’s beautiful creations, we can remember that He loves us. Next, gather some glue and cardstock paper. Use all of the things you collected to make a beautiful collage!

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.

“I Will Order All Things for Your Good”

Have you ever had a powerful spiritual experience and felt the joy of God’s love, only to feel down again when normal life resumes? Or an hour where your children were seemingly perfect and kind to one another, but the rest of the day was awful? This might have been how the early saints felt by the end of the year following the dedication of the Kirtland Temple. Life itself didn’t get easier with the temple’s completion. Financial troubles and increased persecution made enduring to the end difficult for many saints. Yet those who persevered were blessed not only with strength but also with direction on how they could be a blessing to God’s children even amidst their own trials. The Lord’s comforting words to them are extended to us today as we also can help others feel loved during our own struggles: “Let thy heart be of good cheer before my face… for I, the Lord, have a great work for thee to do” (D&C 112:4,6).

“It Is Thy House, a Place of Thy Holiness”

March 27, 1836, was a special date both on earth and in heaven. For the first time since 70 AD, a temple of God was available for men and women to worship in. Many saints who were present for the dedication saw angels celebrating the return of temple blessings to the world. The Lord Jesus Christ shared His own joy of the temple’s completion in Doctrine and Covenants 110:6-7, when he said, “let the hearts of all my people rejoice, who have, with their might, built this house to my name. For behold, I have accepted this house…”.

“The Order of the Son of God”

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is organized according to the Lord’s instructions, as detailed in this week’s reading in the Doctrine and Covenants. One of the ways we can apply the Lord’s guidance in these sections to our families is to establish councils within our homes. We should, with our children, “sit in council with them, and to teach them their duty, edifying one another” (D&C 107:85).
