Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 28 | July 7-13 | Doctrine and Covenants 76

Doctrine and Covenants Section 76 speaks to the eternal truth that salvation comes through and only because of Jesus Christ. Our eternal destiny is secured through the Son of God, and so is our daily salvation. When we reflect on our day and ask for help with our mistakes, He is the one who will help us.

As we seek to be a better parent, or to increase our love for our neighbors, or to know how we can forgive others, Christ will change our hearts in ways that will bless us now and for all eternity. As He said, “by my Spirit will I enlighten them” (Doctrine and Covenants 76:10). His teachings will guide our families to that great and eternal reward.

This Come Follow Me FHE lesson invites your kids to know how much God loves them! Teach your children to love the gospel with our engaging family activities and discussions. Start your free trial to get started!

THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Good Newspaper

Scripture Study

As a family, read D&C 76:40-42, where the gospel is described as glad tidings to the world. Use the Good Newspaper and share what you love about the gospel and how you could share it with the world. Focus on teaching your children how the word gospel means “good news” and how they can share the good news in their lives through their thoughts, words, and actions.

Cookies of Glory

Hands-On Activity

Have fun in the kitchen making the Degrees of Glory sugar cookies. Follow the recipe and explain how each step is crucial in creating the perfect cookie. Using cutters or free hand, roll and cut the dough into sun, moon and star shapes. After they are done baking, decorate with frosting and sprinkles. Discuss how D&C 76 focuses on the degrees of glory and how we can strive to obtain the highest degree.

Degrees of Glory Sorting

Surprise Activity

A main focus of D&C 76 is the descriptions of the three degrees of glory, as explained in The Plan of Salvation. Quickly review The Plan with your children, or reference a video on the media page. Use the Degrees of Glory Sorting Game to read the scriptures and place the token in the correct category of sun, moon or star.

Toddler Bundle Lessons & Activities

For kids ages 1-4 at home and in nursery or sunbeams.

Jesus Made All This For Me

Go & Do Activity

Sing “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” with your child. Teach that Jesus created the stars in the sky. He also created the Earth where we live. He created the sun that gives us light and warmth in the day. He created the moon that shines at night. Jesus made all this for us. When we look at the sun, moon, and stars, we can remember that He made them for us. Explain that He made all these things because He loves us so much. With your child, create your sun, moon, and stars mosaic. Help your child rip colored construction paper into small pieces and glue them onto the sun, moon, and stars. Once finished, you could hole punch each piece, tie a string through them and tie the strings to a clothes hanger to make a mobile to remember how much you are loved. Read D&C 76:24. Have your child hold up their sun and sing “Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam” (Children’s Songbook, pg. 60).

“The Lord Looketh on the Heart”

Have you ever been jealous of your neighbor? The Israelites sure were. They wanted a king to rule over them as other nations had, believing that life would be better and more secure. However, when Israel’s prophet prayed about having a king as a leader, the Lord responded that the people’s jealous desire was actually a rejection of Him as their true King: “they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them” (1 Samuel 8:7). Their need for what others’ possessed had decreased their faith in Him.

“My Heart Rejoiceth in the Lord”

The Lord loved His people, the children of Israel. We read in Ruth that His love wasn’t just for the nation as a whole, but for each person individually who kept their covenants. Ruth is an example of a convert to the faith who trusted in the Lord to keep her and her mother-in-law safe during a famine. Ruth’s loyalty to God helped her see His blessings in her life and trust that even in an uncertain world, good things would come.

“The Lord Raised Up a Deliverer”

What does the perfect parent look like? Is it someone who never yells? Who is always present with their children? Maybe it’s someone who cooks food that the kids never complain about. The Book of Judges teaches us that even with specific rules and expectations, the children of Israel had a habit of returning to sin and idolatry time and time again. Even after they sinned or complained yet again, the Lord always invited them to start new and return to Him.
