Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 49 | December 2-8 | Moroni 1-6

As the sole surviving Nephite, Moroni finishes the record of his people by adding in a few things that he felt we need in our day. From teachings about the Sacrament and Church attendance to clarifying doctrines about baptism and receiving the Holy Ghost. These scriptures are key to survival in times of darkness: “perhaps they may be of worth … in some future day” (Moroni 1:4).

Strengthen your family’s faith through this week’s Come Follow Me FHE lesson. Each one teaches gospel principles from the scriptures and includes everything you need to make Come, Follow Me fun for your kids! This week, teach your children the chapters of Alma 43-52. You will find an activity book for your children (one for ages 3-6 and one for ages 7+). Print your activity book pages, then cut all of them in half, except the cover. You will fold the cover in half to help keep the pages together. Put all your pages in order inside the cover and then staple along the left-hand edge to keep it together. Make one book for each of your children (see lesson for details).

Ordinance Bubbles

Scripture Study Activity

Study Moroni 2-6, looking for priesthood ordinances that are administered in the Lord’s way. Use the Ordinance Bubbles to discuss a few special ordinances that require the power of God. Hide the bubbles around the room to find, read and discuss or place them on popsicle sticks.

Why We Go To Church

With your family, think about the importance of church attendance with this Reese’s Why We Go To Church activity centered around the scriptures Moroni 6:4-9. Get a bag of the lovable peanut butter treats and use them to add some fun to an important discussion.

Be sure to use the activity book for younger children (Level 1, Recommended for ages 3-6). Print your activity book pages, then cut all of them in half, except the cover. You will fold the cover in half to help keep the pages together. Put all your pages in order inside the cover and then staple along the left-hand edge. Make one book for each of your children.

I Can’t Wait Until I’m 8

Go & Do Activity

Help your child recognize what baptism is. After you do so, teach them that each of us can choose to be baptized. Some people decide to get baptized when they turn eight years old, and some people choose to be baptized when they are older. Explain to your child that they can be baptized when they turn eight years old. Decorate the “I Can’t Wait Until I’m 8 Birthday Cake” using markers, crayons, stickers, or finger paint. Help them count 8 birthday candles to stick on the cake. As you practice counting, decide how many more birthdays they will have before they turn eight. Encourage them to see that baptism is something we have to prepare for, not just an age that we turn. Read Moroni 6:2-3. Say, “This scripture teaches us that we should prepare for baptism by making good choices, keeping Jesus in our thoughts and be willing to serve Him forever. Ask, “What good choices can you make as you prepare to be baptized?” Discuss the things that will help them grow closer to Christ and be willing to make covenants with Him. Glue the 8 candles on the cake and sing “I Can’t Wait Until I’m Eight” from the Children’s Songbook pg. 104.

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.

“I Will Order All Things for Your Good”

Have you ever had a powerful spiritual experience and felt the joy of God’s love, only to feel down again when normal life resumes? Or an hour where your children were seemingly perfect and kind to one another, but the rest of the day was awful? This might have been how the early saints felt by the end of the year following the dedication of the Kirtland Temple. Life itself didn’t get easier with the temple’s completion. Financial troubles and increased persecution made enduring to the end difficult for many saints. Yet those who persevered were blessed not only with strength but also with direction on how they could be a blessing to God’s children even amidst their own trials. The Lord’s comforting words to them are extended to us today as we also can help others feel loved during our own struggles: “Let thy heart be of good cheer before my face… for I, the Lord, have a great work for thee to do” (D&C 112:4,6).

“It Is Thy House, a Place of Thy Holiness”

March 27, 1836, was a special date both on earth and in heaven. For the first time since 70 AD, a temple of God was available for men and women to worship in. Many saints who were present for the dedication saw angels celebrating the return of temple blessings to the world. The Lord Jesus Christ shared His own joy of the temple’s completion in Doctrine and Covenants 110:6-7, when he said, “let the hearts of all my people rejoice, who have, with their might, built this house to my name. For behold, I have accepted this house…”.

“The Order of the Son of God”

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is organized according to the Lord’s instructions, as detailed in this week’s reading in the Doctrine and Covenants. One of the ways we can apply the Lord’s guidance in these sections to our families is to establish councils within our homes. We should, with our children, “sit in council with them, and to teach them their duty, edifying one another” (D&C 107:85).
