The Promised Restoration Goes Forward

Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids

Week 1 | December 30 - January 5 | The Restoration of the Fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 1 | December 30-January 5 | The Restoration of the Fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ

A simple prayer spoken aloud in the woods of upstate New York led to the most profound moment in the history of the latter-days. That prayer, and the following answer from Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ, were honored by the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in the year 2020, the 200th anniversary of the First Vision. Their proclamation, “The Restoration of the Fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ: A Bicentennial Proclamation to the World,” was a reminder to the world that the events which had begun in 1820 will eventually culminate in the Second Coming of the Savior Jesus Christ. As we jump into our study of the Doctrine and Covenants this year, there is no better way to do so than to start with taking a deeper look at the First Vision.

THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

The lesson for this week is simplified but intentional to focus your thoughts and efforts on the Savior and His birth. We hope you take the time to use the activities provided to incorporate the light of Christ into your lives and into this special season.

Restoration Banner

Scripture Study

Read “The Restoration Proclamation” as a family and talk about what blessings we have because the gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored, or put back, on the earth. Make the Restoration Blessings Banner and find a place in your home to hang it up so you can see it during the week.

Story Sticks

Surprise Activity

Use the First Vision Story Sticks to teach the story of the first vision. You will need to cut and glue these beforehand, then show the picture while you read the back of the story stick.

Cupstoration

Hands-On Activity

Talk about how the word “restoration” means repaired, fixed or mended and talk with your family how Jesus Christ’s church was on the earth, then was taken away, and now is restored. Then, work on learning a song and clapping rhythm together with the Cupstoration activity. Attach the word strips to cups and build a “Cupstoration” tower together.

Toddler Bundle Lessons & Activities

For kids ages 1-4 at home and in nursery or sunbeams.

This week, we’ll be sharing the gospel with your little ones using the activity book in the Elementary Bundle. Be sure to use the activity book for younger children (Level 1, Recommended for ages 3-6). Print your activity book pages, then cut all of them in half, except the cover. You will fold the cover in half to help keep the pages together. Put all your pages in order inside the cover and then staple along the left-hand edge. Make one book for each of your children.

Jesus is the Cornerstone

Hands-On Activity

Cut out the Jesus Cornerstone Puzzle pieces. Show your child a picture of a cornerstone. Say that this stone is really important because it helps the rest of the building. Builders use the cornerstone to make a strong building, the cornerstone helps them know where to put all the other bricks. Without the cornerstone, the building would fall. Now show a picture of Jesus. Explain that Jesus is the cornerstone of our church. Even though He’s not an actual stone or brick, without Him we wouldn’t have the gospel or His church. Read 2 Nephi 25:26. Invite your child to jump every time they hear the word “Christ.” Teach that nothing would be possible without Jesus and that He is the most important part of our church. Do the puzzle activity together and point out that you couldn’t put the puzzle together without Jesus Christ. Bear testimony.

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.

“We Believe”

Though we have reached the end of the Doctrine and Covenants, the work of the Restoration is still ongoing: “We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God” (Articles of Faith 1:9). Prophets still reveal the will of God. The Church is still growing to fill the Earth.

“The Vision of the Redemption of the Dead”

“What happens after we die?” This is a question commonly asked by all of God’s children. Because of continuing revelation through living prophets, we know! Doctrine and Covenants Sections 137 and 138 reveal that our loved ones who have died go to a place of rest if they were faithful in their testimony of Christ, where they are then prepared to teach the gospel in the spirit world. Those who died who were not faithful are given the opportunity to learn about Jesus Christ and accept ordinances performed by the living: “and thus was the gospel preached to the dead” (D&C 138:30).

He “Has Sealed His Mission and His Works with His Own Blood”

Doctrine and Covenants Section 135 could be viewed as the conclusion of the entire Doctrine and Covenants scriptures, were it not for additional revelation given to the saints. This section witnesses the divinity of the Prophet Joseph’s calling. It declares Joseph’s work to be of God and that it will never fail. It also testifies that those who read the Doctrine and Covenants, as well as the Book of Mormon, “will be reminded that the Book of Mormon, and this book of Doctrine and Covenants of the church, cost the best blood of the nineteenth century to bring them forth” (D&C 135:6).
