Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 31 | July 28-August 3 | Doctrine and Covenants 84

What is “godliness?” Doctrine and Covenants Section 84 uses the word to describe the way that God prepares us to return to live with Him one day. We do this by inviting our children to be baptized and prepare for the temple. Through participating in priesthood ordinances, we increase our access to the priesthood and experience “the power of godliness” as we come to see God’s presence in our lives every day (Doctrine and Covenants 84:20).

Come Follow Me FHE lessons include everything needed for a joyful scripture study with your family! Teach your children to love learning about Jesus Christ with our gospel-focused lesson activities. Start your free trial now!

THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Missionary Letters

Go & Do Activity

Read D&C 84:88. Teach that the Lord protects His missionaries. If you served a mission, share a time when you were protected. Watch some stories of how the Lord blesses missionaries and their work. We suggest picking one or two of the stories to share with your family. Then, use the missionary letters to write to a missionary you know.

Diligence Duties

Hands-On Activity

Read D&C 84:83 together. Teach that diligence means “care and conscientiousness in one’s work and duties.” Ask how each of us can show care and conscientiousness in our duties. Use the Diligence Chore Chart to create a chart for each member of your family. This will help give children the opportunity to show diligence in their work.

Jesus is Our Friend!

Surprise Activity

Talk with your family about their friends and point out how they know their friends really well. Help your children see that Jesus Christ is also their friend. Read D&C 84:63, 77 and point out that Jesus calls us His friend! After your discussion, use the Polaroid picture papers to either draw or glue on your child’s favorite picture of Jesus. Help them put this somewhere special where they can see it often.

Toddler Bundle Lessons & Activities

For kids ages 1-4 at home and in nursery or sunbeams.

Power Popsicles!

Hands-On Activity

Gather your ingredients for your Power Popsicles (or smoothies). Before blending it, show your child the power switch on the blender and explain that the button and the plug give the blender power to be able to mix up what’s inside. Without power, the blender couldn’t make delicious things like smoothies or popsicles. Explain that we can have power in our lives through the priesthood. Priesthood ordinances, such as baptism, provide the power of godliness. These ordinances are special and sacred. They give us light so that we can have God’s power in our own lives. Read D&C 84:19-21. Explain that Heavenly Father loves us and has provided a way for us to have His power in our lives through priesthood ordinances. Let your child dress up like a superhero with a mask and arm cuffs, pretending to have superpowers. Share your testimony about how priesthood ordinances have given you the power to make the right choices. Then enjoy your yummy “power” treat together!

“Establish … a House of God”

Learning is a lifelong journey. While we tend to think of our years in school as the only time in life when we need to gain an education, we know through Doctrine and Covenants 88 that the Lord instructs His faithful to create places of learning in their own homes (D&C 88:119). How do we do that?

“Stand Ye in Holy Places”

Sometimes, things just don’t work out the way we had planned: dinner gets burnt, the car won’t start, or you unexpectedly get laid off from your job. You’ve been promised blessings for keeping the commandments. It might be tempting to wonder where those blessings are when ill fortune strikes.
