Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids

Week 40 | September 20 - September 26

We have multiple Come Follow Me subscriptions and multiple activities in each subscription to help you find what works best for your family. Our goal is to help families come closer to Christ and we’ve worked really hard on providing more options to help achieve our goal.

Toddler Come Follow Me Activity

Shine a flashlight in the room and talk about how the flashlight lights the darkness. Then turn on the light in the room and explain how the room light provides even more light then the flashlight. Ask your children what gives light to the whole world? The sun! The gospel of Jesus Christ brings His light to the whole world too. Read D&C 106:5. Discuss ways we can help light the world, by sharing the gospel and giving service. Color and cut out the “sun mask.” Have your child hold the sun mask around their head and sing “Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam.”

Simplified Come Follow Me Activity

Learn about the priesthood by doing “The Priesthood Sort.” Before starting place the cutout illustration of the Aaronic Priesthood and Melchizedek Priesthood on envelopes. Cut each strip and mix them up. Take turns drawing a piece of paper. Read the scripture and sort it in the correct envelope. After completing the sort, sing some songs about the priesthood.

CREATE IT ACTIVITY:

Read D&C 108:3. Using the “Carefully Living My Covenants Brings Blessings Activity” review the covenants we’ve made or will make and how we can “bee” a covenant keeper. Then let each person make a “bee craft.” You can attach the bee to a popsicle stick and let the children fly the around the room. Or attach a straw to the back of the bee, pull a string through the straw and attach the sting on objects across from each other. Blow the bee down the sting to make it look like it’s flying.

SURPRISE ACTIVITY:

Read D&C 107:21-26, 33-35 and 65-66. Discuss how the Lord leads His church through His servants. Play the “First Presidency and Apostles Match Game.” This is a great opportunity to start to prepare your family for General Conference.

“I Will Order All Things for Your Good”

Have you ever had a powerful spiritual experience and felt the joy of God’s love, only to feel down again when normal life resumes? Or an hour where your children were seemingly perfect and kind to one another, but the rest of the day was awful? This might have been how the early saints felt by the end of the year following the dedication of the Kirtland Temple. Life itself didn’t get easier with the temple’s completion. Financial troubles and increased persecution made enduring to the end difficult for many saints. Yet those who persevered were blessed not only with strength but also with direction on how they could be a blessing to God’s children even amidst their own trials. The Lord’s comforting words to them are extended to us today as we also can help others feel loved during our own struggles: “Let thy heart be of good cheer before my face… for I, the Lord, have a great work for thee to do” (D&C 112:4,6).

“It Is Thy House, a Place of Thy Holiness”

March 27, 1836, was a special date both on earth and in heaven. For the first time since 70 AD, a temple of God was available for men and women to worship in. Many saints who were present for the dedication saw angels celebrating the return of temple blessings to the world. The Lord Jesus Christ shared His own joy of the temple’s completion in Doctrine and Covenants 110:6-7, when he said, “let the hearts of all my people rejoice, who have, with their might, built this house to my name. For behold, I have accepted this house…”.

“The Order of the Son of God”

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is organized according to the Lord’s instructions, as detailed in this week’s reading in the Doctrine and Covenants. One of the ways we can apply the Lord’s guidance in these sections to our families is to establish councils within our homes. We should, with our children, “sit in council with them, and to teach them their duty, edifying one another” (D&C 107:85).
