Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids

Week 42 | October 4 - October 10

We have multiple Come Follow Me subscriptions and multiple activities in each subscription to help you find what works best for your family. Our goal is to help families come closer to Christ and we’ve worked really hard on providing more options to help achieve our goal.

Toddler Come Follow Me Activity

As a family discuss things you treasure. Ideas could include family, your home, the gospel, the temple, etc. Write your answers on the back of the gems. Read D&C 110-2, 9-11. Hide the treasure gems around the house. With your child go on a treasure hunt and collect all the gems. When your child has found all the gems, make a necklace using a hole punch and some yarn. Explain that as we search for the treasures Heavenly Father has given us, we find Jesus. As a bonus, complete the “Treasure Hunt to Christ” activity. Share your testimony about how Heavenly Father has blessed your family with eternal treasures and led you to Jesus.

Simplified Come Follow Me Activity

Read D&C 111:2, 10-11 and discuss the difference between worldly treasures and treasures that come from God. Use the “Treasures of God” page to write on the apple gems the things you treasure that come from God. Then paste the apples to the tree and display the tree in your home where you can see it all week.

DO IT ACTIVITY:

Before the lesson assemble your sheep and cut out the food for the “Feed My Sheep Activity.” Read D&C 112:14-15. Explain that the sheep in these verses are us, everyone who is living on this earth. Let each person pick a clover or a grass and read an example of how we can feed the sheep. As you read each example, share experiences or stories when you or someone you know has done each of these things.

SURPRISE ACTIVITY:

Read D&C 112:11. Share ways you can let your love abound to all men. Let each person share a real life example of when they have shown love to others. Play the “Roll and Cover Game.” Once all the hearts are covered, let children trace the scripture on the printable. As an additional activity, complete the “Heart Lace Ups.”

“I Will Order All Things for Your Good”

Have you ever had a powerful spiritual experience and felt the joy of God’s love, only to feel down again when normal life resumes? Or an hour where your children were seemingly perfect and kind to one another, but the rest of the day was awful? This might have been how the early saints felt by the end of the year following the dedication of the Kirtland Temple. Life itself didn’t get easier with the temple’s completion. Financial troubles and increased persecution made enduring to the end difficult for many saints. Yet those who persevered were blessed not only with strength but also with direction on how they could be a blessing to God’s children even amidst their own trials. The Lord’s comforting words to them are extended to us today as we also can help others feel loved during our own struggles: “Let thy heart be of good cheer before my face… for I, the Lord, have a great work for thee to do” (D&C 112:4,6).

“It Is Thy House, a Place of Thy Holiness”

March 27, 1836, was a special date both on earth and in heaven. For the first time since 70 AD, a temple of God was available for men and women to worship in. Many saints who were present for the dedication saw angels celebrating the return of temple blessings to the world. The Lord Jesus Christ shared His own joy of the temple’s completion in Doctrine and Covenants 110:6-7, when he said, “let the hearts of all my people rejoice, who have, with their might, built this house to my name. For behold, I have accepted this house…”.

“The Order of the Son of God”

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is organized according to the Lord’s instructions, as detailed in this week’s reading in the Doctrine and Covenants. One of the ways we can apply the Lord’s guidance in these sections to our families is to establish councils within our homes. We should, with our children, “sit in council with them, and to teach them their duty, edifying one another” (D&C 107:85).
