Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 15 | April 7-13 | Doctrine and Covenants 30-36

With our busy lives, it can be too easy to think we have to have the strength to do it all ourselves: getting kids up and ready for school, working long hours, doing laundry and dishes, making meals, planning activities, fulfilling callings, and so on. We will become burned out from life if we trust only ourselves to make everything happen. This is not the Lord’s way. As he told a young David Whitmer in 1830, “your mind has been on the things of the earth more than on the things of me, your Maker” (D&C 30:2), and as a result, David had been left to himself to deal with life’s problems.

When we only rely on ourselves to get things done, we stop trusting in the Lord to give us strength to endure all things. We must rely on Him. Through Jesus Christ, all the good we do will be blessed by His hand. Just as the boy in the New Testament who only had five loaves of bread and two fishes, Christ can take what we offer, even if it’s not enough, and meet our needs. All that is required is to live “not fearing what man can do, for I am with you” (D&C 30:11).

THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

The lesson for this week is simplified but intentional to focus your thoughts and efforts on the Savior and His birth. We hope you take the time to use the activities provided to incorporate the light of Christ into your lives and into this special season

Passage to Ponderize

Scripture Study

Read D&C 33 as a family. Then, focus on D&C 33:17-18 and use the Passage To Ponderize to help children memorize this verse. Talk about how you can have your lamps trimmed and have oil to be prepared for when Christ comes again.

Prepare to Serve

Go & Do Activity

Read D&C 36:3 and discuss with your family about sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. To practice this, gather some missionary clothes and a small stool to stand on. Then, sing the song, “The Church of Jesus Christ” (Children’s Songbook, pg 77) as loud as you can! Take turns putting on the missionary clothes, standing and declaring your love of the gospel.

Build Upon the Rock

Surprise Activity

Read D&C 33:12-13 with your family. Discuss ways you can build your lives upon the Rock. Then, have fun playing Build Upon The Rock Pictionary together. This game will help you think of ideas of how you can build your lives on the Rock, Jesus Christ.

I Can Be a Missionary

Hands-On Activity

Show a picture of a missionary on your phone. Play “I Spy” to point out the missionary’s tag. ”I spy something black.” Let your children find the missionary tag. Explain that the missionary tag means that they represent Jesus Christ and teach His gospel. Read D&C 34:10 and teach that we can all be missionaries by ‘lifting up our voices’ and teaching others about Jesus Christ and His gospel. Discuss some simple ways that you could share the gospel with others. Use the printable missionaries and tape the pictures of the Elder and Sister missionaries on the wall. Place tape on the back of the missionary tags. Then, play Pin the Tag on the Missionary. Use a blindfold for an extra challenge! For an alternative way to play the game, a family member can be the “missionary.” Let your child tape the tag onto the “missionary’s” shirt.

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.

“Is Any Thing Too Hard for the Lord?”

Abraham and Sarah had a lot to worry about. From infertility and famine to war and the safety of their family, it could have been easy to forget their covenants while focusing on their daily concerns. Yet they showed faith by putting the Lord first each day. As a result of keeping their covenants, they knew the Lord would help them throughout their lives. As Abraham told his son, Isaac, “God will provide” (Genesis 22:8). We should follow Abraham’s example of faith and always put the Lord first.

“To Be a Greater Follower of Righteousness”

Abraham lived a life of violence and peace, of trauma and healing, and of promises and faith. Through every trial, Abraham trusted in the Lord and chose to follow Him even when his world was at its darkest. He was rewarded with a covenant that encompasses all of God’s children and will last into the eternities. This covenant and its blessings are extended to our families today.

“Noah Found Grace in the Eyes of the Lord”

The phrase, “found grace in the eyes of the Lord (Moses 8:27), has at least two meanings that can bless our families. One is that Noah lived in a way that allowed the Lord to strengthen him and his family during difficult circumstances. A second meaning is that Noah discovered the peace that comes from looking at life through God’s eyes. By looking at life with an eternal perspective, Noah “walked with God, as did also his three sons” (Moses 8:27) even in a world filled with wickedness.
