In 2 Nephi 6:16-18, Nephi talks about those who are God’s covenant people – those who “wait for him.” Discuss making covenants and how you can participate in the gathering of Israel as part of God’s covenant people. The Lord Jesus Christ was pleased to see saints gathering from many places as the restored gospel began to spread across the earth. As the Church grew, the Lord gave commandments to organize the saints. These commandments would encourage them to live in harmony with one another.
As the Lord Jesus Christ continued to reveal His restored Church through the Prophet Joseph, the early Saints were instructed to gather in Kirtland, Ohio, leaving behind their comfortable homes and businesses. The idea of living according to God’s way and dedicating their lives to the Lord was an exciting prospect for many of these saints. The sacrifices they made along the way were not easy, but their work still impacts our lives today through the global blessings of the gospel.
The First Vision wasn’t the only time Jesus Christ appeared to the Prophet Joseph. On Easter Sunday in 1836, the Savior stood in the Kirtland temple and declared, “For behold, I have accepted this house, and my name shall be here” (D&C 110:7). For the first time in millennia, a temple of God was again on the earth.
