From infertility and famine to war and the safety of their family, it could have been easy to forget their covenants while focusing on their daily concerns. Yet they showed faith by putting the Lord first each day. As a result of keeping their covenants, they knew the Lord would help them throughout their lives. As Abraham told his son, Isaac, “God will provide” (Genesis 22:8). We should follow Abraham’s example of faith and always put the Lord first.

Count Your Blessings

Scripture Study

Read Genesis 18:10-14 and ask your family the question from verse 14, “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” Then, read Genesis 21:2-3 and discuss how the promise the Lord made to Sarah and Abraham was fulfilled. Testify that Heavenly Father always keeps His promises. Sometimes His blessings don’t come when we want them to, but they always come. Count your blessings as a family and use the Blessing Counter Sign Activity to keep track of how many you notice.

Flee From Wickedness

Surprise Activity

Read the story of Sodom and Gomorrah (Gen. 19:12-29) together. Be sure to read Genesis 19:26 about when Lot’s wife is disobedient and becomes a pillar of salt. Then, play Hot Potato (Flee Wickedness Style). Talk about how we should “flee” bad situations as quickly as we can, just as we try to pass the potato as quickly as we can.

Stars in the Sky

Go & Do Activity

With your child, sing “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.” Ask your child how many stars they think there are in the night sky. Explain that there are more than anyone can count. Teach that Heavenly Father told Abraham that he would be blessed with so many descendants that they would be like the stars in the sky. Read Genesis 22:17-18. All of Abraham’s descendants would be blessed because Abraham obeyed the Lord. Explain that when we are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we receive these blessings, too. With your child, place glow-in-the-dark stickers in their room. Teach that when they see the stickers glowing at night they can remember the blessings that Heavenly Father has given them.
