Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 48 | November 24-30 | Doctrine and Covenants 135-136

Doctrine and Covenants Section 135 could be viewed as the conclusion of the entire Doctrine and Covenants scriptures, were it not for additional revelation given to the saints. This section witnesses the divinity of the Prophet Joseph’s calling. It declares Joseph’s work to be of God and that it will never fail. It also testifies that those who read the Doctrine and Covenants, as well as the Book of Mormon, “will be reminded that the Book of Mormon, and this book of Doctrine and Covenants of the church, cost the best blood of the nineteenth century to bring them forth” (D&C 135:6).

We can never forget the sacrifice that has been offered to the Lord for us to have the scriptures in our homes today. The word of God is in our hands thanks to Joseph Smith, his brother Hyrum, and many other early saints who lived and died trusting the Lord that He would make the most of their efforts. How well would our lives be different if we and our children lived with similar faith?

Come Follow Me FHE lessons include everything you need to have an memorable scripture study with your family. Help your children to learn the gospel with our scripture-focused lesson activities. Start your free trial now!

THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Thankful Tree

Scripture Study

Read D&C 135:6 about Joseph Smith and all he did for the restoration of the gospel. Then, listen to and watch a talk by Elder Holland. Because of the restoration and the testimony of Joseph, we can have our own testimonies of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Work together to create a Testimony Thankful Tree as you write what things you are grateful for that help strengthen your testimony.

Thanksgiving Service

Hands-On Activity

Read D&C 136:11 and discuss how faithful service with a pure heart blesses your lives and the lives of others. Assign children in the family the task of making an apple pie dump cake for your Thanksgiving dessert. Allow them to work together and serve in the kitchen for the holiday. When the dessert is finished, ask how it made them feel to serve their family on this day.

Going Camping

Surprise Activity

After Joseph’s death, Brigham Young was counseled to have the saints move West to establish Zion. Pack bed rolls and create your own camp, making a blanket fort in the Westward Ho! activity. Read D&C 136:1-4 and discuss what the saints did to establish the camp of Winter Quarters. If you want, sleep in your fort just like the pioneers did!

Remembering the Prophet

Go & Do Activity

Heavenly Father calls prophets to teach us what we need to know and what we need to do to return to live with Him. Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. Through him, Heavenly Father and Jesus restored the fullness of the gospel. We have many blessings in our lives because of Joseph Smith’s teachings and service. Read D&C 135:3. Explain that we can live as Joseph did by following the commandments of God and by helping others. With your child, play the Treat Walk game as you review many of the blessings we have because of the Prophet Joseph Smith. As you play the game, listen to “Praise to the Man” (Hymn 27). Share your testimony about how Joseph Smith has blessed your family.

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.

“The Lord Was with Joseph”

In every moment of Joseph’s story, God was with him. From his brothers’ betrayal and serving Potiphar, to a friend of Pharaoh and the savior of his family, at no time was Joseph forgotten by God. Through the good and the bad, he trusted that God knew who he was and had faith that everything would be all right.

“Let God Prevail”

Abraham’s posterity was promised many blessings of eternal significance, but that didn’t mean everything would be perfect. His grandsons, Jacob and Esau, fought over who should inherit their father’s birthright. Relatives lied to and tricked each other. The prophet’s very own family was dysfunctional, yet that didn’t stop those who were righteous from striving to follow Jesus Christ.

“Is Any Thing Too Hard for the Lord?”

Abraham and Sarah had a lot to worry about. From infertility and famine to war and the safety of their family, it could have been easy to forget their covenants while focusing on their daily concerns. Yet they showed faith by putting the Lord first each day. As a result of keeping their covenants, they knew the Lord would help them throughout their lives. As Abraham told his son, Isaac, “God will provide” (Genesis 22:8). We should follow Abraham’s example of faith and always put the Lord first.
