Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 47 | November 17-23 | Doctrine and Covenants 133-134

What does it mean to “go ye out of Babylon” (D&C 133:7)? As a parent, it might mean using kinder words with our children or putting our phones down to be a better listener. For children, it might mean learning to share or being willing to help around the house without being asked. Fleeing Babylon means choosing to be more like Jesus, even in the smallest of ways.

As we prepare for the Second Coming, the most important thing we can do is to become more like the Savior in our thoughts, words, and deeds. Doing so allows us to keep the commandment to “prepare yourselves for the great day of the Lord” (D&C 133:10). We can get out of Babylon right now and prepare our families for His return.

Come Follow Me FHE lessons include everything you need to have an impactful scripture study with your family. Empower your children to love the gospel with our scripture-focused lesson activities. Start your free trial now!

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Family Voting

Go & Do Activity

Read D&C 134:5-8 and talk about how you have laws where you live to help protect you. How do these laws keep you safe? Share other ways you can “sustain and uphold” the government. One way is to vote on leaders you trust and believe in. Use your ballots and do the fun voting activity as a family.

Prepare for the Second Coming

Surprise Activity

Before the lesson, prepare three bags of clothing and other items needed for a specific activity (gloves, a hat, a coat, flippers, etc.). Play a fun guessing game, as the rest of the family will guess what people are preparing for. Read D&C 133:17. Explain that we are commanded to prepare for the second coming. Share ways you can prepare for the second coming.

Color the City

Coloring Activity

Read D&C 134:1 and talk about ways you can be a good citizen. Have your children color the city car track map and then play with it using toy cars. Talk about obeying traffic laws by stopping at stop signs and other traffic signs.

Laws of God

Hands-On Activity

Talk about how Heavenly Father has given us commandments for safety by having the spirit with us and peace. Teach that in the scriptures, we are also taught that we need to keep the laws of the land. Read D&C 134:1. Explain that keeping the laws of the land also keeps us safe. Describe some of the laws of the land. For example, stop signs, speed limits, etc. Complete the Laws of the Land and the Laws of God picture sort activity to help your child better understand the difference between the commandments and laws. After completing the sort, make a pretend road in your house and post the various pictures along the road. When your child reaches the picture, they do what the picture shows.

“The Lord Looketh on the Heart”

Have you ever been jealous of your neighbor? The Israelites sure were. They wanted a king to rule over them as other nations had, believing that life would be better and more secure. However, when Israel’s prophet prayed about having a king as a leader, the Lord responded that the people’s jealous desire was actually a rejection of Him as their true King: “they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them” (1 Samuel 8:7). Their need for what others’ possessed had decreased their faith in Him.

“My Heart Rejoiceth in the Lord”

The Lord loved His people, the children of Israel. We read in Ruth that His love wasn’t just for the nation as a whole, but for each person individually who kept their covenants. Ruth is an example of a convert to the faith who trusted in the Lord to keep her and her mother-in-law safe during a famine. Ruth’s loyalty to God helped her see His blessings in her life and trust that even in an uncertain world, good things would come.

“The Lord Raised Up a Deliverer”

What does the perfect parent look like? Is it someone who never yells? Who is always present with their children? Maybe it’s someone who cooks food that the kids never complain about. The Book of Judges teaches us that even with specific rules and expectations, the children of Israel had a habit of returning to sin and idolatry time and time again. Even after they sinned or complained yet again, the Lord always invited them to start new and return to Him.
