Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 36 | September 1-7 | Doctrine and Covenants 94-97

It’s easy to think that, as parents, we’re not doing enough to give our children a good life. The world is always persuading us to look at what others are doing and tells us our kids are missing out on extravagant trips, the latest entertainment systems, and privileged extracurricular activities. Yet these experiences will fall short of the positive impact that regular family prayer, daily scripture study, and keeping covenants can have on our children.

From Nephi building a ship to the restoration of the gospel, the Lord has always taught us to put aside what the world would do. When we let go of the world and focus on following the Savior, we will build strong, loving families “like unto the pattern which I [the Lord] have given you” (D&C 97:10).

Come Follow Me FHE lessons include everything you need to make gospel study memorable for your family! Strengthen your children’s love for the Savior’s teachings with our scripture-focused lessons & activities. Start your free trial now!

THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Pure in Heart Hunt!

Scripture Study

As we learn more about the early saints and their lives, we learn that righteous people and places are often called Zion, which means “pure in heart.” Read D&C 97:21 and discuss what it means to have a pure heart and how we can build Zion in our own homes and communities. Go on the Pure in Heart Hunt as a reminder to have a pure and serving heart!

Stained Glass Sidewalk

Hands-On Activity

Read D&C 95:8 where the Lord commands His people to build a temple. Many people helped construct the temple, which included beautiful windows with crushed dishes and china. Create your own stained glass “windows” with sidewalk chalk as a family and share your work!

Surprise Skittles

Surprise Activity

“Many hands make light work” is a common phrase about people working together. In this fun activity, you will see how Zion people who join together can have a big impact. Grab a bag of Skittles and some milk for the Skittles Surprise object lesson that will portray the sentiment above.

Toddler Bundle Lessons & Activities

For kids ages 1-4 at home and in nursery or sunbeams.

The Pure in Heart

Go & Do Activity

Show your child how to make a heart shape with their hands. Read D&C 97:16, 21 and have your child make heart hands when they hear the phrase “pure in heart.” Explain that Jesus taught us that the pure in heart would be blessed. Teach that being pure in heart means that we do things and say things that Jesus would do and say. Discuss the different ways that we can be pure in heart. We can serve others, speak kind words, and follow the teachings of Jesus. When we are pure in heart, we will see God’s influence in our lives and someday we will see Him again. With your child, play the Heart Matching Game. As you play, talk about how we can be pure in heart. Share your thoughts about how we can be pure in heart and see God again someday. With your child, make heart-shaped Rice Krispie treats and share them with friends and family!

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.

“After Much Tribulation … Cometh the Blessing”

Zion’s Camp was less of an army marching to liberate Missouri and more of a multi-week training in how to be a true saint. Those who showed they trusted in the Lord by following the Prophet Joseph received a massive boost to their faith, giving them strength for the road ahead: “That they themselves may be prepared, and that my people may be taught more perfectly, and have experience” (Doctrine and Covenants 105:10).

“Be Still and Know That I Am God”

Doctrine and Covenants 97 was given to the saints as both a blessing of comfort and instruction. With persecution growing around them, the saints needed to know the will of the Lord to guide them. Jesus Christ spoke peace to the saints through the Prophet Joseph, encouraging them to wait “patiently on the Lord” and to do what He would do, even if it meant further persecution (D&C 97:2).
