We Rejoice In Christ

Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids

Week 9 | February 17 - February 23

Begin by reading 2 Nephi 13 and 14. Choose key verses that stand out to you to discuss as a family. These scriptures are about how Judah and Jerusalem will be punished for their disobedience. Complete the compare and contrast activity provided in the materials.

As you continue to read in 2 Nephi, discuss some of the signs of the last days or some of the warnings Isaiah gave. Write down these ideas on the scroll provided. Let children stand on a stool, wear the beard, hold the scroll, and read aloud like the prophet Isaiah to warn the wicked.

Next, teach about how the Millennium will be a time of peace and joy. You can use the animal scene in your materials to help children understand. Teach that animals that don’t get along now will one day be at peace with each other during the Millennium. Close the lesson by singing Peace in Christ. See your summary sheet for a link to the song.

One of the bonus lessons this week is to talk about the temple being the House of the Lord. Share your experience of being married in the temple. Help the children create the 3D Temple. Let them put figures in and out of the temple pretending to go to the temple someday.

Use the Spin It Game to talk about different ways we can gain knowledge from the world and from God. Read Day 2 on your summary page for more details on this bonus idea.

(For those with a workbook there is a corrected Spin it Game file in the download section of your account)

Read 2 Nephi 25:23-26 and use the coloring page to memorize verse 26.

See your summary sheet for more details on the lesson and bonus activities as well as a QR code for the song Peace in Christ that goes along with the lesson.

“The Lord Looketh on the Heart”

Have you ever been jealous of your neighbor? The Israelites sure were. They wanted a king to rule over them as other nations had, believing that life would be better and more secure. However, when Israel’s prophet prayed about having a king as a leader, the Lord responded that the people’s jealous desire was actually a rejection of Him as their true King: “they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them” (1 Samuel 8:7). Their need for what others’ possessed had decreased their faith in Him.

“My Heart Rejoiceth in the Lord”

The Lord loved His people, the children of Israel. We read in Ruth that His love wasn’t just for the nation as a whole, but for each person individually who kept their covenants. Ruth is an example of a convert to the faith who trusted in the Lord to keep her and her mother-in-law safe during a famine. Ruth’s loyalty to God helped her see His blessings in her life and trust that even in an uncertain world, good things would come.

“The Lord Raised Up a Deliverer”

What does the perfect parent look like? Is it someone who never yells? Who is always present with their children? Maybe it’s someone who cooks food that the kids never complain about. The Book of Judges teaches us that even with specific rules and expectations, the children of Israel had a habit of returning to sin and idolatry time and time again. Even after they sinned or complained yet again, the Lord always invited them to start new and return to Him.
