God knew the purpose of His creation before He began His work. As He told Moses, “This is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man (Moses 1:39). That purpose is the “why” for everything God does, including why He loves each of us.
We should also have a purpose in our family. We all want to live in a way that strengthens our family’s desire to be together for eternity. Remembering our purpose daily as a family reminds us of the “why” when we need to forgive, serve, and show charity for one another.

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!
Scripture Study
As members of the Church, we are asked to be good examples of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ by being missionaries and helping to complete Their work on Earth. Read Moses 1:39 and complete the Break the Code activity. Afterward, share your testimony of how you are helping God’s work on Earth and how it makes you feel. As we continue to follow God’s plan for us, we will receive eternal life and eternal happiness.
Hands-On Activity
As a family, read Abraham 3:3-10 and discuss Kolob. Use the Bible Dictionary and read other verses that discuss Kolob and its significance in scripture. Kolob is defined as ‘the star nearest to the throne of God.’ Create a Kolob star scene using black construction paper, your own puffy paint, or Elmer’s glue and glitter. Display your scenes around the house to remind you to remain close to God this week.
Surprise Activity
Play the fun Treat in a Cup game as a family to test your scripture knowledge. This would be a great activity for Family Home Evening with some healthy family-friendly competition. As you read the questions, come up with answers together, then read the scripture that correlates. Share your thoughts and feelings with one another, and have fun.

Hands-On Activity
Teach that Heavenly Father has a plan. His plan helps us return to live with Him someday. Place a picture of Jesus on the opposite side of the room. Make an obstacle course using items found around your house such as pillows, blankets, and chairs. Give your child instructions on how to maneuver through the obstacle course and reach the picture of Jesus. Allow your child to give other family members instructions on how to maneuver through the obstacle course to reach the picture. Then, read Moses 1:39. Explain that Heavenly Father’s work and glory are to provide a way for us to return to Him. Sing “I Will Follow God’s Plan” (Children’s Songbook, p. 164). Share your testimony that we can find happiness when we follow Heavenly Father’s plan.

Abraham’s posterity was promised many blessings of eternal significance, but that didn’t mean everything would be perfect. His grandsons, Jacob and Esau, fought over who should inherit their father’s birthright. Relatives lied to and tricked each other. The prophet’s very own family was dysfunctional, yet that didn’t stop those who were righteous from striving to follow Jesus Christ.
Abraham and Sarah had a lot to worry about. From infertility and famine to war and the safety of their family, it could have been easy to forget their covenants while focusing on their daily concerns. Yet they showed faith by putting the Lord first each day. As a result of keeping their covenants, they knew the Lord would help them throughout their lives. As Abraham told his son, Isaac, “God will provide” (Genesis 22:8). We should follow Abraham’s example of faith and always put the Lord first.
Abraham lived a life of violence and peace, of trauma and healing, and of promises and faith. Through every trial, Abraham trusted in the Lord and chose to follow Him even when his world was at its darkest. He was rewarded with a covenant that encompasses all of God’s children and will last into the eternities. This covenant and its blessings are extended to our families today.
