Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 26 | June 23-29 | Doctrine and Covenants 67-70

We often keep things of value in special places: important documents kept in a secured file or safe, dinner china in a display cabinet, or treats too good to share with kids up on the top shelf. These things are kept safe and out of easy reach for good reasons, but there are other things of value we need to make sure are always available to us. Our scriptures are one of these things.

Not just ordinary books, the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price are in our own hands every day. We find comfort in God’s words and in the stories of past saints. We receive revelation from Heaven on what we need to do in life. Truly, “for the good of the church, and for the rising generations,” our scriptures are some of the most valuable possessions we have (Doctrine and Covenants 69:8).

This Come Follow Me FHE lesson includes all you need to make everyday scripture study a blast for your kids! Teach your children to love the gospel with our engaging family activities. Start your free trial today!

THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Scripture Arrows

Scripture Study

Follow the scripture arrows on a journey through The Doctrine and Covenants. Use your guide to help you find scriptures in D&C 67-69 that teach about many doctrines. After you read the scripture, find which picture on the Doctrine & Covenants Teaches Us… page and color it in. Use this as a guide as you search for key doctrines we are taught in the scriptures.

A Prophet’s Voice

Hands-On Activity

Enjoy a nature walk and listen for the sounds you hear. We use our ears to hear sounds outside, and we also use our ears to listen to the prophet and apostles’ voices. In D&C 68:3-4, we read that their voices and teachings come from Heavenly Father. Make the big ear headbands and wear them as you listen to the song “Come, Listen to a Prophet’s Voice.”

Family Art Walk

Surprise Activity

In section 68 of D&C, the Lord gives parents the law to teach their children the gospel and principles of righteousness. Read verses 25, 26 and 31 and think about the lessons your parents have taught you. Using our homemade sidewalk chalk or store-bought sticks, draw murals of what you have learned from your parents. Have a family art walk and share your testimony of what you created!

Can’t Wait to Be 8

Go & Do Activity

Teach that each of us can choose to be baptized like Jesus. Some people are baptized when they are eight, and others are baptized when they are older. Explain that your child can choose to be baptized when they turn eight years old. Help them count eight fingers or eight birthday candles. Count how many more birthdays they will have before they turn eight. Read D&C 68:27. Decorate the “I Can’t Wait Until I’m 8!” birthday cake and glue eight candles on the cake. Sing “I Can’t Wait Until I’m Eight” (Children’s Songbook, pg. 104). For a special treat, you could even make cupcakes!

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.

“Is Any Thing Too Hard for the Lord?”

Abraham and Sarah had a lot to worry about. From infertility and famine to war and the safety of their family, it could have been easy to forget their covenants while focusing on their daily concerns. Yet they showed faith by putting the Lord first each day. As a result of keeping their covenants, they knew the Lord would help them throughout their lives. As Abraham told his son, Isaac, “God will provide” (Genesis 22:8). We should follow Abraham’s example of faith and always put the Lord first.

“To Be a Greater Follower of Righteousness”

Abraham lived a life of violence and peace, of trauma and healing, and of promises and faith. Through every trial, Abraham trusted in the Lord and chose to follow Him even when his world was at its darkest. He was rewarded with a covenant that encompasses all of God’s children and will last into the eternities. This covenant and its blessings are extended to our families today.

“Noah Found Grace in the Eyes of the Lord”

The phrase, “found grace in the eyes of the Lord (Moses 8:27), has at least two meanings that can bless our families. One is that Noah lived in a way that allowed the Lord to strengthen him and his family during difficult circumstances. A second meaning is that Noah discovered the peace that comes from looking at life through God’s eyes. By looking at life with an eternal perspective, Noah “walked with God, as did also his three sons” (Moses 8:27) even in a world filled with wickedness.
