Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 30 | July 21-27 | Doctrine and Covenants 81-83

The Savior Jesus Christ requires much of His people. As shown throughout scripture, Christ doesn’t ask only a tiny bit of our time. He wants our entire heart to be in His work. From our efforts, the Lord brings about great blessings for our brothers and sisters. For example, doing family history and temple work blesses families that lived before us. Sharing the gospel now can bless generations to come. Even our own families are the result of blessings promised to those who committed to the work.

With commitment bound by covenants, the Lord expects us to try our best in our service to Him. Yet, in return, He promises to bless us in our needs. As it says in Doctrine and Covenants 82:10, “I, the Lord, am bound when ye do what I say; but when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise.”

THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Connect the Dots

Scripture Study

Read D&C 82:19 as a family and discuss how keeping our eyes on God blesses our lives as you complete the Connect the Dots page. Share how looking into a telescope or binoculars involves using our eyes and focusing on something far away. When we use our hearts and minds to focus on God, we will feel His love and grow closer to Him.

Things in Thankfulness

Go & Do Activity

As members of the church, we have assignments to check in on our friends, neighbors and fellow ward members. As we do these things, we can serve as Jesus Christ did, and also, fulfill His mission of bringing others to Him. Prepare the Check-in Chex Mix as a family and read D&C 82:19. See who your family feels prompted to visit and share the snack with.

“Sucker” the Weak

Hands-On Activity

Show your inner strength with this fun “Sucker” the Weak hands-on lesson. Read and discuss D&C 81:5 about the charge to succor, lift and strengthen one another. Create your mini bodybuilder and discuss how you can serve those around you by lifting them up when they are weak. Challenge your family to find someone to succor this week and share a Dum Dum with them!

Toddler Bundle Lessons & Activities

For kids ages 1-4 at home and in nursery or sunbeams.

Super Sharers!

Hands-On Activity

Get some playdough for you and your child to play with. Give yourself more than your child. Play with the playdough and make different things. You can give suggestions to your child of things to make if they seem stuck. As you say, “I’m noticing you need more playdough to make that amazing creation. I will share my playdough with you. Give your child your playdough and praise their super cool creation! Next, gather together for the lesson and “share” a stuffed animal for your child to hold during the lesson. Ask how your child felt when you shared the playdough and the stuffed animal with them. Explain that sharing can be hard, but it can help others and make us feel good, too. We feel like a “super sharer!” Read D&C 82:3. “For of him unto whom much is given much is required.” Explain that because Heavenly Father has given us so many things, we should give to others, too. We can be “super sharers” by sharing what we have been blessed with! Let your child color or decorate a “Super Sharer!” badge or necklace pendant. Let them pretend to be a “super sharer” by sharing a yummy treat that you make together. This week, try noticing when your child shares and praise them for being a “super sharer!”

“The Order of the Son of God”

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is organized according to the Lord’s instructions, as detailed in this week’s reading in the Doctrine and Covenants. One of the ways we can apply the Lord’s guidance in these sections to our families is to establish councils within our homes. We should, with our children, “sit in council with them, and to teach them their duty, edifying one another” (D&C 107:85).

“After Much Tribulation … Cometh the Blessing”

Zion’s Camp was less of an army marching to liberate Missouri and more of a multi-week training in how to be a true saint. Those who showed they trusted in the Lord by following the Prophet Joseph received a massive boost to their faith, giving them strength for the road ahead: “That they themselves may be prepared, and that my people may be taught more perfectly, and have experience” (Doctrine and Covenants 105:10).

“Be Still and Know That I Am God”

Doctrine and Covenants 97 was given to the saints as both a blessing of comfort and instruction. With persecution growing around them, the saints needed to know the will of the Lord to guide them. Jesus Christ spoke peace to the saints through the Prophet Joseph, encouraging them to wait “patiently on the Lord” and to do what He would do, even if it meant further persecution (D&C 97:2).
