Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 6 | February 3-9 | Doctrine and Covenants 6–9

We sometimes think the best way to do something is to do it ourselves. The Lord, however, wants us to work with Him in accomplishing His “great and marvelous work” (D&C 6:1). To do so, we must be humble and seek revelation to learn how we can be a part of His plan to invite all people to come unto Him.

Learning how to seek revelation starts by accepting that God’s way is better than our way. Seeking revelation through prayer, study, and service will help us understand that God is ready to speak to us if we’re prepared. If we “look unto [Him] in every thought,” and “doubt not” (D&C 6:36), we will feel Him guiding us throughout our lives.

THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

The lesson for this week is simplified but intentional to focus your thoughts and efforts on the Savior and His birth. We hope you take the time to use the activities provided to incorporate the light of Christ into your lives and into this special season

Break the Code!

Scripture Study

Start your scripture study by using the Break the Code page. Once finished, read the scripture D&C 9:8 together as a family. Talk about what “study it out in your mind” means to you and how you can apply it in your family and your lives. Hang the scripture print as a reminder throughout the week.

Be a Scribe

Go & Do Activity

Read D&C 6:17 and discuss how Oliver was Joseph’s scribe. Explain how difficult this was. Joseph would translate from the golden plates, and it had to be written down by Oliver perfectly, word for word. Let your family practice being a scribe using the Be a Scribe Activity.

Reap What You Sow

Hands-On Activity

Make the Flowering Dirt Cups as a family and then enjoy them as a treat! After “sowing” your M&M “seed” and making the flower, you can read D&C 6:33-36 as a family and discuss what it means to “reap what you sow.”

For kids ages 1-4 at home and in nursery or sunbeams.

Lost Sheep

Go & Do Activity

Cut out the picture of Jesus Christ and the sheep for the Lost Sheep Activity. Show your child a picture of a flock of sheep. Explain that a big group of sheep is called a flock and that flocks of sheep need someone to help take care of them and keep them safe. Someone who takes care of sheep is called a shepherd. Teach that sometimes the sheep get lost, but the shepherd will always go and find the sheep. Read D&C 6:34 & 36. Explain that one of the names of Jesus is “The Good Shepherd” and we are His sheep. Jesus loves us and will always help us and take care of us just like a shepherd takes care of their sheep. With your child, scatter the sheep around the house. Remind your child that Jesus Christ is the Shepherd. He gathers His sheep and takes care of them and He will always take care of us! Let your child gather the sheep and help Jesus take care of them. Continue scattering and gathering the sheep. Remind them that Jesus is our Shepherd as they are doing this activity.

“After Much Tribulation … Cometh the Blessing”

Zion’s Camp was less of an army marching to liberate Missouri and more of a multi-week training in how to be a true saint. Those who showed they trusted in the Lord by following the Prophet Joseph received a massive boost to their faith, giving them strength for the road ahead: “That they themselves may be prepared, and that my people may be taught more perfectly, and have experience” (Doctrine and Covenants 105:10).

“Be Still and Know That I Am God”

Doctrine and Covenants 97 was given to the saints as both a blessing of comfort and instruction. With persecution growing around them, the saints needed to know the will of the Lord to guide them. Jesus Christ spoke peace to the saints through the Prophet Joseph, encouraging them to wait “patiently on the Lord” and to do what He would do, even if it meant further persecution (D&C 97:2).

“For the Salvation of Zion”

It’s easy to think that, as parents, we’re not doing enough to give our children a good life. The world is always persuading us to look at what others are doing and tells us our kids are missing out on extravagant trips, the latest entertainment systems, and privileged extracurricular activities. Yet these experiences will fall short of the positive impact that regular family prayer, daily scripture study, and keeping covenants can have on our children.
