Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 35 | August 25-31 | Doctrine and Covenants 93

Following the Savior means growing as He grew “in wisdom and stature” (Luke 2:52). Jesus showed Joseph Smith that this example must be followed by all who seek to come unto Him. In Section 93, He tells the prophet, “For if you keep my commandments you shall receive… and be glorified in me” (D&C 93:20). When we choose to obey our Savior, He shares wisdom with us that can help our families come closer together. We must choose every day to follow Him if we are to grow “from grace to grace” in both our parenting and our discipleship (D&C 93:13).

THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Grace For Grace

Scripture Study

Read D&C 93:6-17 as a family and talk about how Jesus was taught from grace to grace (v.12). Then, read D&C 93:20 and explain that we can also receive grace for grace or can be taught until we receive a fullness of glory. Help deepen understanding by going outside for a discussion as outlined in our Grace for Grace activity.

A House of Order

Go & Do Activity

Watch the video “More Diligent and Concerned Home.” Then read D&C 93:44, 50. We want our house to be a house of order. Look around your house and see what you can get in order. Then use the House of Order Goal Sheet to put each person in charge of something for the week to keep it in order.

Light of the World

Hands-On Activity

Use the Candle and Jar Object Lesson to teach repentance and the light of Christ. Read D&C 93:9, 28. Discuss how Jesus is the light of the world. Do the activity and finish by explaining that we can always repent and return to light because of Jesus Christ.

Toddler Bundle Lessons & Activities

For kids ages 1-4 at home and in nursery or sunbeams.

Jesus Is The Light

Go & Do Activity

Start by turning off all the lights in your house. If you have blinds or drapes, close those to try and make it as dark as possible. Ask your child how they would feel if it was dark all the time. Discuss how it would probably start to feel scary or stressful after a while. Next, turn on the lights and have the room as light as possible. Express how you feel in the light: happy, calm, etc. Read D&C 93:2 and talk about how each of us has a light. Not a real light, but a feeling that is sometimes described as light. Explain that the scriptures teach us that Jesus is the reason for our light, happiness and joy. Teach that as we make good choices, keep the commandments and try our best to be like Jesus, our light or good feelings will become brighter and brighter. As we choose to follow Jesus and let His light shine, people will notice and want to have that light, too.

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.

“After Much Tribulation … Cometh the Blessing”

Zion’s Camp was less of an army marching to liberate Missouri and more of a multi-week training in how to be a true saint. Those who showed they trusted in the Lord by following the Prophet Joseph received a massive boost to their faith, giving them strength for the road ahead: “That they themselves may be prepared, and that my people may be taught more perfectly, and have experience” (Doctrine and Covenants 105:10).

“Be Still and Know That I Am God”

Doctrine and Covenants 97 was given to the saints as both a blessing of comfort and instruction. With persecution growing around them, the saints needed to know the will of the Lord to guide them. Jesus Christ spoke peace to the saints through the Prophet Joseph, encouraging them to wait “patiently on the Lord” and to do what He would do, even if it meant further persecution (D&C 97:2).

“For the Salvation of Zion”

It’s easy to think that, as parents, we’re not doing enough to give our children a good life. The world is always persuading us to look at what others are doing and tells us our kids are missing out on extravagant trips, the latest entertainment systems, and privileged extracurricular activities. Yet these experiences will fall short of the positive impact that regular family prayer, daily scripture study, and keeping covenants can have on our children.
