Be Thou an Example of the Believers

Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids

Week 45 | October 28 - November 3

The past few lessons have been epistles from Paul to all of the saints. This week we are reading in 1 and 2 Timothy, Titus, and Philemon and get to study the words of Paul to individuals who were leaders of the church. Read the introductory paragraph on page 166 in the manual to expound on this.

Begin the lesson by talking about who the leader of your ward is. We have provided a fun charades game to play to learn more about the roles of the Bishop. The kids can also do the Bishop coloring page and draw in the face to look like their Bishop.

As a family read 1 Timothy 4:10-16. Use the example scramble to help teach the importance of being a good example.

We recommend listening to the audio of 2 Timothy chapter 3 on the Gospel Library app. Discuss as a family what you learn from these scriptures. Use the Halloween bag and treats activity to talk about the wickness that Paul prophesied about and how we can “be an example of the believers.” Put the candy in the corresponding bag. Be sure to follow the directions on how to glue and cut the bags so the candy can go inside.

A couple of the bonus ideas this week includes “The scriptures will help me learn the truth” page to help teach about the importance of scriptures and a Mystery Scripture Story marking guide for an additional way to study 2 Timothy chapter 3.

“The Lord Called His People Zion”

In less than one generation, the world God created was filled with wickedness. One exception was Enoch, a prophet who taught his people how to live the gospel of Jesus Christ. As Enoch talked with God, he was amazed to see that the Divine Creator would cry at the fall of His children: “How is it thou canst weep?” (Moses 7:31). God responded, “They are the workmanship of mine own hands” (Moses 7:32). He was sad because each child of God is precious to Him. He grieves for each one of us when our choices take us away from Him.

“Teach These Things Freely unto Your Children”

From the very beginning, the gospel of Jesus Christ was taught by prophets to help families find peace in the world and obtain the promise of being together forever. Parents taught their children to “call upon the name of the Lord, and the Lord blessed them” (Moses 6:4). In today’s world, we shouldn’t hesitate to start teaching our children to do the same. From showing our toddlers how to pray to helping our teenagers plan a FHE lesson, we can bless their lives now and forever as they learn to “call upon the name of the Lord.”

The Fall of Adam and Eve

Parenting is not easy. The experiences of Adam and Eve show that being a parent has never been without trials and heartache. Yet through raising their family, they learned true happiness comes as we try to follow Jesus Christ. Eve said without the pain that had happened in her life, she “never should have known good and evil, and the joy of our redemption, and the eternal life which God giveth” (Moses 5:11).
