Armed with Righteousness and with the Power of God

Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids

Week 5 | January 20 - January 26

The main lesson for this week is going to be so much fun! You get to talk about superheros and play a superhero board game! First, start the lesson discussing what your family has learned from the assigned reading, 1 Nephi 11-15. Consider reading the opening paragraph in the manual on page 14. Discuss how God has a great work for us to do and in order to help with His Great work we need to be armed with righteousness. How can we do this? What does that look like in our daily lives? You can use the wiggle songs listed on the summary sheet to break up the discussion.

Then play the Superhero Board Game. As you play it will reinforce things we can be doing to have the power of God with us. Let each child wear a superhero badge as you play (have these prepared before hand).

After you play the game complete the superhero picture frames and display them all week to remind your family of what you have learned.

There are some really great bonus activities this week.

Complete the love coloring page and then sit in a circle as a family. Let each member of the family say one thing they love about all the other members of your family.

This week in your materials is a scripture marking guide. See your summary sheet for a fun activity and discussion to do with your family before the scripture marking guide.

Read 1 Nephi 11:16-33 and talk about how God loved us so much that He sent his Son. Use the song chart provided to sing or learn the song “He Sent His Son.”

Read your summary sheet for more bonus ideas and for the QR code to watch a video. To use the QR code download any QR scanner app (there are multiple free apps). Scan the code and it will take you directly to the link of the video.

“Be Strong and of a Good Courage”

Most of the Israelites heading into the Promised Land had been born in the wilderness. Few remembered the treacherous journey across the bottom of the Red Sea, yet all would experience the miracle again as they crossed the Jordan River on dry ground. This time, however, it was not a crowd of fleeing former slaves who worshipped golden calves. It was the camp of Israel, a covenant-making people who had proven their faithfulness to the Lord.

“Beware Lest Thou Forget the Lord”

Moses taught that faith is best nurtured through the natural rhythms of family life rather than through formal lessons alone. He commanded parents: “Thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way” (Deuteronomy 6:7). Integrating gospel conversations into daily activities helps our children guard against “forgetting the Lord” during times of ease and prosperity.

“Rebel Not Ye against the Lord, Neither Fear”

Moses did not have an easy time being the Israelite’s prophet. From constant squabbles amongst the people to outright apostasy against the Lord, there was plenty of drama he had to deal with. As a prophet, Moses knew what the Israelites could be if they stayed faithful. He told Joshua it would be less of a struggle if everyone could see what the Lord had shown him: “would God that all the Lord’s people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his spirit upon them!” (Numbers 11:29).
