Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 17 | April 21-27 | Doctrine and Covenants 37–40

As the Lord Jesus Christ continued to reveal His restored Church through the Prophet Joseph, the early Saints were instructed to gather in Kirtland, Ohio, leaving behind their comfortable homes and businesses. The idea of living according to God’s way and dedicating their lives to the Lord was an exciting prospect for many of these saints. The sacrifices they made along the way were not easy, but their work still impacts our lives today through the global blessings of the gospel.

Having the humility to follow God’s will for us will never be simple or easy. But God does provide a way for us to know He will recognize even our smallest efforts to follow Him. He promises that if we live in a way ready to act on His guidance, “ye shall not fear” (D&C 38:30).

Come Follow Me FHE lessons include everything needed for a joyful scripture study with your family! Teach your children to love learning about Jesus Christ with our gospel-focused lesson activities. Start your free trial now!

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Trust in Faith

Scripture Study

Read D&C 37 and D&C 38:37-38 as a family and talk about the revelation given to the saints to move to Ohio. Then do the Trust Activity to help your family see what it is like to trust someone without knowing what will come from it.

Family Cheer!

Go & Do Activity

Make a family cheer! Read D&C 38:27 and talk about how the Lord commanded the saints to “be one” and leave their homes and go to Ohio. Then work together as a family to decide on a family cheer to help you remember to “be one.”

“Rolls” of the Holy Ghost

Surprise Activity

Read D&C 39:6. Use the Rolls Of The Holy Ghost activity to help your family discuss the different roles of the Holy Ghost. Think of examples in your life when the Holy Ghost has played each of the roles. Share them with your family. To end, you could have a fun treat like cinnamon rolls, Tootsie Rolls, or dinner

Toddler Bundle Lessons & Activities

For kids ages 1-4 at home and in nursery or sunbeams.

Treasure Up the Scriptures

Hands-On Activity

Ask your child where they would look for treasure. Would they look on an island, in the sea, or on a ship? Teach that Heavenly Father has taught us to seek treasures of wisdom and learning. These are more valuable than gold. He has given us the scriptures where we can find treasures of knowledge. Read D&C 38:30. Explain that we can “treasure up wisdom” by reading the scriptures and keeping these treasures forever. Then, make a treasure box. Hide the jewels throughout your scripture pages. Help your child search for each of the jewels and place them in their box. You may want to place a gem near your favorite scripture and read that scripture when your child finds that gem. Help your child fill their box as they “treasure up knowledge” by reading the scriptures! Bear your testimony of the scriptures.

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.

“After Much Tribulation … Cometh the Blessing”

Zion’s Camp was less of an army marching to liberate Missouri and more of a multi-week training in how to be a true saint. Those who showed they trusted in the Lord by following the Prophet Joseph received a massive boost to their faith, giving them strength for the road ahead: “That they themselves may be prepared, and that my people may be taught more perfectly, and have experience” (Doctrine and Covenants 105:10).

“Be Still and Know That I Am God”

Doctrine and Covenants 97 was given to the saints as both a blessing of comfort and instruction. With persecution growing around them, the saints needed to know the will of the Lord to guide them. Jesus Christ spoke peace to the saints through the Prophet Joseph, encouraging them to wait “patiently on the Lord” and to do what He would do, even if it meant further persecution (D&C 97:2).

“For the Salvation of Zion”

It’s easy to think that, as parents, we’re not doing enough to give our children a good life. The world is always persuading us to look at what others are doing and tells us our kids are missing out on extravagant trips, the latest entertainment systems, and privileged extracurricular activities. Yet these experiences will fall short of the positive impact that regular family prayer, daily scripture study, and keeping covenants can have on our children.
