Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 12 | March 16-22 | Genesis 42–50

Joseph’s forgiveness of his brothers did not come after they had paid restitution or offered an apology. He forgave them the moment he realized they had changed from their jealous ways when they offered themselves in place of Benjamin for punishment. How overwhelming it must have been for Joseph to see such love amongst his brothers. His forgiveness came with no strings attached: “be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves” (Genesis 45:5).

When we forgive our spouses or our children for offenses against us, do we offer unconditional love for them as Joseph did? He made no demands and gave no chastisement. Instead, he followed up his forgiveness with kindness and generosity. We must be sure to act as Joseph would and forgive with only the purest intentions in our hearts. Setting this example will invite the Spirit into our homes and help our families grow closer together.

THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Seer Scramble

Scripture Study

Study the Joseph Smith Translation version of Genesis 50:26-33 as a family. Joseph of Egypt foresaw that the Lord would raise up a choice seer unto the nation. He prophesied that Joseph Smith would become a prophet. Talk about what a seer and prophet are as you continue to discuss what you learn about Joseph Smith in this prophecy. Then, practice using tools as a seer to unscramble the scripture verse in the Seer Scramble activity.

Joseph and Jesus

Hands-On Activity

Read Genesis 42:1-3 and 45:5-11. Then, as a family, compare Joseph to Jesus Christ by discussing how Joseph saved his brothers, just as Christ has saved us. Notice what qualities they have in common. Make a list of similarities and then assemble the Jesus Christ Foldable as a reminder of Christ’s saving power.

Forgive Others

Coloring Page

Read Genesis 45:1-8, and then complete the I Can Forgive Others coloring page as a family. Joseph showed forgiveness to his brothers, just like Jesus does for us. Talk about how we can offer others that same forgiveness. Make plans to forgive someone in your life whom you may be thinking about.

Toddler Bundle Lessons & Activities

For kids ages 1-4 at home and in nursery or sunbeams.

Strong Foundations

Family Activity

Explain that Jacob’s family moved to Egypt. In Egypt, they had food to eat and land for their animals. The people who lived in Egypt built large pyramids. These pyramids had strong foundations. Just like the pyramids, our testimony needs to have a strong foundation. When we learn about Jesus and try to be like Him, we are building a strong foundation. With your child, build a pyramid with paper cups. Explain that the pyramids have stood for thousands of years because of their strong foundations. Our testimonies can be strong too.

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.

“He will swallow up death in victory”

We have already read several references to Jesus Christ’s atonement and resurrection in the Old Testament: the Flood that cleansed the world of wickedness, Abraham’s sacrifice of his son, and Joseph saving his family from the famine, just to name a few. These stories help us understand that the world has been readying for the Savior’s mortal ministry thousands of years before He would be born. It all leads to Him.

“I Have Remembered My Covenant”

Moses grew from a helpless Hebrew infant to Egyptian royalty. Yet that wasn’t where God needed him. As a refugee, Moses was called to be the most significant prophet of the Old Testament. Through Moses, the Lord redeemed His people, established His covenant, and reminded the world that God will not forget those who follow Him.
