By the time the Israelites had their third king, the nation split into two groups: the 10 tribes in the north, forming the Kingdom of Israel, and the remaining two tribes in the south, forming the Kingdom of Judah. The Lord called a mighty prophet, Elijah, to remind His people of their true King: Jehovah (Jesus Christ). Elijah testified to the people that their idol worship was taking them farther away from God.
Focusing on the Lord and His love should be a priority for our families. Are there idols in our lives that are taking us away from the Savior? Do we take time each day to remind our loved ones that they are children of God? Consider what your family can do to invite the Spirit into your lives more often and draw closer together to feel Christ’s love.

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!
Scripture Study
Begin by reviewing the 10 Commandments. Then, read 1 Kings 12:27-33 and invite your children to identify which commandment the people in these verses are breaking. Teach that God loves us and has blessed us abundantly, which is why we shouldn’t worship idols or put anything before Him. Finish the lesson by playing 10 Commandment Charades.
Hands-On Activity
Read 1 Kings 19:9-12 together. Follow the instructions and do the Still Small Voice activity with your family. Discuss what you learn about how the Lord speaks to us from these scriptures. Next, make a “telephone” and play the game to help your children practice listening for the still small voice. Finally, learn more about the Holy Ghost by completing the Holy Ghost is a Gift activity (see lesson for details).
Surprise Activity
Read 1 Kings 17:8-16 with your family and discuss the great faith the widow showed by giving the last of her food to Elijah the prophet. Then, make the Super Fast White Bread together and reenact the story. You can also choose someone to share a loaf of bread with!

Family Activity
The Lord told the prophet Elijah to go to the city of Zarephath and ask a widow to give him water and bread (see 1 Kings 17:8–16). The widow recognized Elijah as a prophet and wanted to feed him, but she only had a small amount of flour—just enough to make bread for herself and her child for one more day. Elijah told her that if she would have faith and give him bread first, she would never run out of flour. The widow chose to obey the prophet. Because of her faith, she was blessed and always had enough flour to make more bread. Share your testimony about how following the prophet bless-es your family. Then, with your child, use the Super Fast White Bread recipe to make bread together. Let them help mix the ingredients, and as you bake, share your testimony that when we follow the prophet, we are blessed throughout our lives.

Going from tabernacle to temple was a big deal for the Israelites. So big, in fact, that even those building the temple had to be worthy of the task. David’s sin in his lust for Bathsheba disqualified him to build the Lord’s house, resulting in his son Solomon completing it. For building the temple with a pure heart, the Lord promised Solomon that so long as he kept the commandments, “I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people” (1 Kings 6:13).
The story of David versus Goliath teaches many important principles, with one being that if we try our best and have real faith in God, He will help us make the most of our efforts. Though an army was present and he was offered the king’s armor, David brought his sling and his belief that the Lord would prevail through him. It was enough: “the Lord saveth not with sword and spear” (1 Samuel 17:47) but with trust and hope.
