Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 42 | October 13-19 | Doctrine and Covenants 115-120

Doctrine and Covenants section 115 is the first time we read the name of the Church as we know it today: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (D&C 115:4). As the saints were driven from both Kirtland, Ohio, and Independence, Missouri, they found a new haven in Far West, Missouri. This new start was a gathering point, allowing the saints to come together for support and grow their faith as one people.

We can also start new with dedicated purpose in our families. No family is immune to not getting along, but each moment is another chance to be kinder and more willing to love each other. If we choose to “start new” instead of holding on to grudges or anger, we can draw our family closer to the Savior, just as the early saints did.

Come Follow Me FHE lessons include everything needed for a joyful scripture study with your family! Teach your children to love learning about Jesus Christ with our gospel-focused lesson activities. Start your free trial now!

THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

I Belong

Scripture Study

Missionaries all around the world bear the name of Jesus Christ and the name of the church on their name badges each day! Read the official name of the church in D&C 115:4-5, as given by revelation to Joseph Smith from Jesus Christ. Then, give your children an “I belong…” sticker and help them write in the margins of their scriptures.

Rise Up!

Go & Do Activity

We will all have times in our lives when we feel down or sad. Read in D&C 118:1-6 how members who had these feelings were able to rise up through the faith and prayers of others. Do the Rise Up Object Lesson and watch how your balloon rises and falls. Think of times in your life you have helped others rise when they were down and how it made you feel.

Let My Light Shine

Hands-On Activity

In the fall, we see pumpkins everywhere! In this fun I Will Let My Light Shine for Jesus Christ activity, you will learn how a pumpkin turns into a jack-o-lantern and is similar to the change we have as we take upon the name of Jesus Christ at our baptism. Read D&C 115:5 as a family and discuss how to be a light and share the light of Jesus Christ.

Toddler Bundle Lessons & Activities

For kids ages 1-4 at home and in nursery or sunbeams.

Shining Star

Hands-On Activity

Make a star wand by cutting out a star shape from thin cardboard or cardstock. Let your child decorate their star. Tape a dowel or stick to the back of the star. Add ribbons to the star wand. Have your child wave their star wand while you sing “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.” Teach that sailors used stars to help them navigate where they should go to make it safely to their destination. We can shine bright like the stars, too! We can be an example to others, showing them how to follow Heavenly Father’s commandments. Read D&C 115:5. Ask your child how they can shine forth like a star to be an example to others.

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.

“A Voice of Gladness for the Living and the Dead”

Even during the early years in Nauvoo, there were times when the Prophet Joseph still had to flee for his life from those who sought to stop the work. Yet even in hiding, he continued to keep his focus on the restoration of the gospel, specifically with baptisms for the dead. “That subject seems to occupy my mind, and press itself upon my feelings the strongest, since I have been pursued by my enemies” (Doctrine and Covenants 128:1). No matter what trials he faced, Joseph never forgot his calling to restore Christ’s Church.

“A House Unto My Name”

Building the city of Nauvoo was not the first time the Saints had to begin again, but it was the first time they could start new from the ground up. As the saints gathered from Missouri to build this new city, many were sick and still reeling from the harsh persecution they had suffered. The Prophet Joseph administered to the saints, healing them both physically and spiritually. Through His Prophet, the Lord promised the saints that, “If ye labor with all your might, I will consecrate that spot that it shall be made holy” (Doctrine and Covenants 124:44)

“O God, Where Are Thou?”

The recent passing of President Russell M. Nelson brings to memory his last conference talk, where he quoted verses from this week’s section: Doctrine and Covenants 121. President Nelson referenced D&C 121:45, where the Lord shares that having confidence “in the presence of God” comes from having charity and virtue. Additionally, we’re told that if we have charity and virtue, we will have a greater understanding of “the doctrine of the priesthood.”
