Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 44 | October 27-November 2 | Doctrine and Covenants 124

Building the city of Nauvoo was not the first time the Saints had to begin again, but it was the first time they could start new from the ground up. As the saints gathered from Missouri to build this new city, many were sick and still reeling from the harsh persecution they had suffered. The Prophet Joseph administered to the saints, healing them both physically and spiritually. Through His Prophet, the Lord promised the saints that, “If ye labor with all your might, I will consecrate that spot that it shall be made holy” (Doctrine and Covenants 124:44).

As our lives change and we are sometimes required to “start new,” we should seek to be healed from anything that prevents us from feeling the full measure of God’s love. We can seek vision and blessings from the Lord by aligning ourselves to the prophet of the Church. If we choose to be faithful during our trials, we will have all our efforts “made holy” just as the early saints did.

Come Follow Me FHE lessons are a fun way to invite gospel learning into your home! Use our lesson activities to spark joy in your children as their testimonies grow. Start your free trial now!

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Follow the Prophet

Scripture Study

Read D&C 124:45 and talk about the blessings you and your family have seen from following the prophet. This week, go through some conference talks and on the Follow the Prophet word bubble page, write some action words in the bubbles of things the prophets asks us to do. Then, make a plan to act on at least one of them this week.

Build the Temple

Hands-On Activity

When the Saints got to Nauvoo, Heavenly Father instructed them to build a temple. Read D&C 124: 26-27 together. Point out that the Saints were instructed to contribute all their precious things to help build the temple. Share your testimony of the blessings of the temple. Then get creative and build temples together.

Temple Blessings

Coloring Activity

Read D&C 124:31 and talk about the blessings that come from the temple. Ask your children if they can think of blessings they have received because of the temple. Then, grab your favorite coloring supplies to color the “Build A House Unto Me” coloring page.

Learning to Minister

Go & Do Activity

Explain that in D&C 124, many people received callings. That means they were chosen by God to serve in a certain way. Joseph Smith was called to be a prophet. His brother, Hyrum, was called to be a Patriarch and give special blessings. Just like these people received callings, we can receive callings to help in church now! Explain the callings you hold in your family. Teach that even though your child is not called as a teacher or a bishop, one calling that we all have is to be a minister. That means we can be a good friend and serve and help people around us and in our ward. As a family, make a treat or come up with a way to serve the families you have been called to minister to. Include your children in loving and ministering to those around you.

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.

“The Lord Was with Joseph”

In every moment of Joseph’s story, God was with him. From his brothers’ betrayal and serving Potiphar, to a friend of Pharaoh and the savior of his family, at no time was Joseph forgotten by God. Through the good and the bad, he trusted that God knew who he was and had faith that everything would be all right.

“Let God Prevail”

Abraham’s posterity was promised many blessings of eternal significance, but that didn’t mean everything would be perfect. His grandsons, Jacob and Esau, fought over who should inherit their father’s birthright. Relatives lied to and tricked each other. The prophet’s very own family was dysfunctional, yet that didn’t stop those who were righteous from striving to follow Jesus Christ.

“Is Any Thing Too Hard for the Lord?”

Abraham and Sarah had a lot to worry about. From infertility and famine to war and the safety of their family, it could have been easy to forget their covenants while focusing on their daily concerns. Yet they showed faith by putting the Lord first each day. As a result of keeping their covenants, they knew the Lord would help them throughout their lives. As Abraham told his son, Isaac, “God will provide” (Genesis 22:8). We should follow Abraham’s example of faith and always put the Lord first.
