Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 23 | June 1-7 | Ruth 1; 1 Samuel 1-7

The Lord loved His people, the children of Israel. We read in Ruth that His love wasn’t just for the nation as a whole, but for each person individually who kept their covenants. Ruth is an example of a convert to the faith who trusted in the Lord to keep her and her mother-in-law safe during a famine. Ruth’s loyalty to God helped her see His blessings in her life and trust that even in an uncertain world, good things would come.

God loves us in the same way He loved Ruth. If we trust Him, we can see daily blessings and turn trials into opportunities to grow in our love for Him and our families. Teaching our children to follow the Lord, no matter what, will help them feel His love even in the most difficult times.

Come Follow Me FHE lessons include everything you need to make gospel study fun for your family! Empower your children to love the gospel with our scripture-focused lesson activities. Start your free trial now!

Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Break the Code

Scripture Study

Read 1 Samuel 1:10–11, 27–28 and complete the Break the Code activity. As a family, talk about someone you know who is struggling or in need. Set a goal to pray for that person every day—either as a family or individually. You can even create your own prayer chart to help you remember.

Read the entire book of Ruth and sing “Kindness Begins with Me” (Children’s Songbook, p. 145b). Then use the Acts of Kindness Bundle to work toward completing 100 acts of kindness as a family. Celebrate your kindness together!

Gathering Wheat

Hands-On Activity

Summarize Ruth 2 for your family, then read Ruth 2:7–8 together. Talk about how Ruth was helpful to her mother-in-law and how Boaz showed kindness to her. Use Pops or rice puff cereal to glue onto the wheat stalks on the Wheat Activity page.

Toddler Bundle Lessons & Activities

For kids ages 1-4 at home and in nursery or sunbeams.

Gather Acts of Kindness

Family Activity

Tell the story of Ruth from the Book of Ruth. Teach that Ruth was loving and kind. She cared for her mother-in-law, Naomi, even when it wasn’t expected of her. Ruth gathered leftover grain in the fields so they would have food to eat. Heavenly Father blessed Ruth for her kindness. We can be kind like Ruth by helping those around us. With your child, do the Gather Acts of Kindness activity by writing simple acts of kindness on the back of the grain sheaves. Help your child gather the grain and complete each act of kindness together. Share your testimony of a time when someone’s kindness blessed your life. As a family, strive to do simple acts of kindness throughout the week.

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.

“The Lord Raised Up a Deliverer”

What does the perfect parent look like? Is it someone who never yells? Who is always present with their children? Maybe it’s someone who cooks food that the kids never complain about. The Book of Judges teaches us that even with specific rules and expectations, the children of Israel had a habit of returning to sin and idolatry time and time again. Even after they sinned or complained yet again, the Lord always invited them to start new and return to Him.

“Be Strong and of a Good Courage”

Most of the Israelites heading into the Promised Land had been born in the wilderness. Few remembered the treacherous journey across the bottom of the Red Sea, yet all would experience the miracle again as they crossed the Jordan River on dry ground. This time, however, it was not a crowd of fleeing former slaves who worshipped golden calves. It was the camp of Israel, a covenant-making people who had proven their faithfulness to the Lord.
