Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 22 | May 25-31 | Judges 2–4; 6–8; 13–16

What does the perfect parent look like? Is it someone who never yells? Who is always present with their children? Maybe it’s someone who cooks food that the kids never complain about. The Book of Judges teaches us that even with specific rules and expectations, the children of Israel had a habit of returning to sin and idolatry time and time again. Even after they sinned or complained yet again, the Lord always invited them to start new and return to Him.

While we are not perfect parents, we can make up for our shortcomings through Jesus Christ. His grace and forgiveness allow us to always try again. Whether we feel regret for raising our voice to a child, or are trying not to become upset after yet another dinner was wasted by picky eaters, He will deliver us from our sorrow and bring our family closer together in love and faith.

Come Follow Me FHE lessons include everything you need to make gospel study fun for your family! Empower your children to love the gospel with our scripture-focused lesson activities. Start your free trial now!

THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Parable of the Popcorn

Surprise Activity

Using the link on our media page, watch “Gideon: The Full Story” as a family. Talk about how the Lord asked Gideon to do things that may have seemed unpopular or small at the time, yet they led to great and marvelous works. Then, enjoy a story and snack with the Parable of the Popcorn activity. Discuss how you can be more like Gideon when God asks you to do something.

Bound by Sin

Hands-On Activity

Jesus Christ is our healer and deliverer, which means He can help us during trials or when we are “bound by sin.” As a family, read Judges 3:7–9 and 12–15. Discuss the steps of repentance and how they help us become clean again. Use the Bondage Chain Activity as a visual to show how Christ literally breaks the chains of sin and frees us through His Atonement.

Strong Like Deborah

Coloring Page

As a family, take turns reading the story of Deborah in Judges 4:1–15. As you read, ask your children if they’ve ever had to choose the right or stand up for what’s right when others didn’t. Share how Deborah is a powerful example in the scriptures of someone who stood for truth and lived her values. Then, color and display the Deborah poster as a reminder to be strong and faithful like Deborah.

Toddler Bundle Lessons & Activities

For kids ages 1-4 at home and in nursery or sunbeams.

Little Hands

Family Activity

Trace your child’s hands on a piece of paper and cut them out. Then, trace and cut out the hands of other family members. Ask your child, “Who has the smallest hands?” Explain that even small hands can do great things! Tell the story of Gideon’s army of 300 soldiers (see Judges 7). Even though the army was small in number, they were mighty and strong because they trusted and worshipped Heavenly Father. Play the Small Things, Great Work matching game together. As you play, talk about the small things we can do each day to become strong and mighty with Heavenly Father’s help. On each paper hand, write a way your family can use their hands to do great things for the Lord. Then sing “I Have Two Little Hands” (Children’s Songbook, p. 272).

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.

“The Lord Is My Shepherd”

In modern times, the Lord declared “the song of the heart is a prayer unto me” (Doctrine and Covenants 25:12). In ancient times, songs, or psalms, were used to praise the Lord and remember His covenants with His people. Many Psalms are attributed to King David, whose relationship with God is one of the most detailed in the entire Old Testament. It’s no wonder David is thought to be the author of so many songs that praise the Lord for His strength, His mercy, His patience with His children, and His eternal love for all mankind.

“Yet Will I Trust in Him”

Job had many blessings in his life: a large family, a devoted spouse, and wealth that provided plenty and more for his household. Job gave thanks to God for his blessings, but even when nearly every blessing was taken away, he did not lessen his faith. Instead, as those around him said his faith had been a waste of time, Job showed his trust in the Lord by exercising Christlike patience and long suffering. Eventually, Job’s faith was rewarded, and his trust in God was justified.

“Thou Art Come … for Such a Time as This”

Esther never set out to be queen of the most powerful empire in the world. Born into servitude as part of a conquered people, the best life Esther could have hoped for would have been a quiet life far away from the homeland of her ancestors. Yet when trouble came, it wasn’t her beauty or good luck that saved her people’s lives; it was her faith in God. Through her trust in the Lord and her willingness to act in faith, Esther was able to accomplish much more than she could alone.
