Read D&C 73:3. Discuss with your family what the word idle means. Ask your family why they think the Lord doesn’t want us to be idle. Discuss the answers they give. Then play the “Best Efforts Charades Game.” This will give your family ideas of what you can do to not be idle.
Read D&C 68:3-4. Discuss how we can use our ears to listen to the words of the prophet. Show the “Prophet and Apostles Print” Think of times as a family when we hear the prophets and apostles speak. Finish by creating a “Big Ear Headband” for each child.

Get an individual picture of each person in your family. Place the picture in a frame or plastic sheet protector. Using a dry erase marker let each person write things about themselves on top of the picture.
Read D&C 63:44. Discuss things that are sacred. Examples could include temples, our body, the chapel, the Lord’s name, etc. Talk about how we should treat these sacred things with reverence. Complete the “Color By Number Sacred Things Page.”

Read in the Come Follow Me Manual for Individuals and Families, the introduction on page 96 and D&C 62:3. Have your family show how wide they can open their mouths. Discuss how it is important that we open our mouths wide and share about the gospel. Talk about what blessings come to us and those we teach as we share the gospel. Create the “Wide Mouth Animals” as you finish your discussion.

Teach your family about the two greatest commandments. Use your index finger on one had as you talk about loving God with all your heart, might, mind, and strength. Then use your index finger on the other hand as you talk about loving your neighbor. Then bring your index fingers together and make a heart shape with your hand.

As a family make a small batch of chocolate chip cookies. Instead of putting in sugar put in salt but don’t tell your family. Let your family eat the cookies and when they realize the cookies don’t taste good, tell them that you told a little lie. You put salt in instead of sugar but you didn’t think it would matter. Discuss the consequences of lying. Finish the lesson by using the “chocolate chip cookies journaling.”

Create the “Christ Will Come Again Tree Craft.” For the winter branches you can use cotton balls or white paint. For spring use pink tissue paper for the spring blossoms. Color the leaves on the summer branches green. Cut out fall colored leaves out of construction paper for the autumn leaves. Read D&C 45:37-38. Discuss that just like there are signs for the changing seasons and there were signs for Christ’s birth and death, today there are signs for when He will come again.
