This Is the Way

In these last chapters of 2 Nephi, we read the final testimony of a prophet of God. Nephi shares a lasting witness of Jesus Christ and offers a goodbye to both the people of his day and to us in modern times, saying that he will meet us again at the Second Coming of the Savior. We can heed the words of Nephi by teaching our children to “hearken unto these words and believe in Christ” (2 Nephi 33:10).

A Marvelous Work and a Wonder

Like his father Lehi, the prophet Nephi was gifted with extraordinary visions of God’s children. He was shown many things to help give him purpose as the leader of his people and to know what to write in record. He even saw the last days which we live in now, emphasizing that above all, “except ye shall keep the commandments of God ye shall all likewise perish” (2 Nephi 30:1). This week’s lesson will help your family come to see a little of what Nephi saw and understand our own purpose for living at a time near Christ’s Second Coming.

We Rejoice in Christ

Though we aren’t that far yet, Jesus Christ will one day proclaim to the Nephites that “great are the words of Isaiah” (3 Nephi 23″1). The prophets Nephi and Jacob already understood that, which is why so much of their writings in 2 Nephi are nearly a direct quote from the Old Testament. While reading these chapters with your family, see what stands out to you about Christ and the gathering of Israel. As with Nephi, the Spirit’s voice can help your family understand the writings of these ancient prophets and what they mean for you today.

His Name Shall Be Called … The Prince of Peace

The Book of Mormon prophets Nephi and Jacob have a special fondness for the writings of Isaiah. Could it be that they see a special witness of the Savior in Isaiah’s writings? Have your own testimony of Jesus Christ strengthened this week as you and your family read about the many names prophets have called him through the centuries. You’ll be able to teach your kids more about why we need a Savior and how He can bless them every day.

We Lived After the Manner of Happiness

This week begins a new era in the Book of Mormon as Nephi becomes the patriarch of his family. 2 Nephi is a powerful book of scripture that not only teaches how we should live as families but also why we should do our best to love and nurture each other. In this Come Follow Me lesson, we’ll use crafts, storytelling, and games to help your children understand connections between the Old Testament and modern-day prophets, temples, and other inspiring principles.
