Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 17 | April 20-26 | Exodus 19-20, 24, 31-34

How did Moses prepare the Israelites to make covenants with the Lord? We read in Exodus 25 that God gave commandments to His people to help them be ready for greater covenant blessings when He would “dwell among them” (Exodus 25:8). Even though the Israelites struggled to keep these commandments, they were eventually blessed as they remained true to the Lord. We will also receive all promised blessings as we live our lives in faithfulness.

Keeping commandments daily does not mean we see an immediate relief from trials or obtain blessings right away. However, it does guarantee we can live in peace now as we feel the presence of our Father in Heaven each day.

Come Follow Me FHE lessons include everything you need to make gospel study fun for your family! Empower your children to love the gospel with our scripture-focused lesson activities. Start your free trial now!

THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

What Do We Idolize?

Scripture Study

Read Exodus 32:1-8, 19-24 as a family. Discuss what the Israelites had done and how we sometimes worship worldly things today, too. Complete the Things We Idolize Today activity page by following the instructions included on the page (pp. 3–4).

I Love You!

Hands-On Activity

Read Exodus 31:13 as a family and have a discussion on the Sabbath day. What we do on Sunday and other days shows Heavenly Father how we feel about Him. As the scripture says, it’s a sign. Ask yourself and your family, “What sign are we showing God by going to church?” Use the I Love You! sign to write or draw what you do to show your love for the Lord.

Ten Commandments Review

Surprise Activity

This week, two activities will help your family review the Ten Commandments from Exodus 20:3-17. First, follow the instructions to cut out and fold the Ten Commandments Chatterbox. Take turns selecting a section and see who can name all Ten Commandments. Next, cut apart the Ten Commandments Puzzle to continue your review.

For kids ages 1-4 at home and in nursery or sunbeams.

A Treasure

Family Activity

Help your child make a “treasure” box by decorating a small container with markers and stickers. Collect small rocks, buttons, coins, or other small objects to place in the treasure box. Explain that a “treasure” is something very valuable and precious. We are Heavenly Father’s treasure because we are His children. Read Exodus 19:5 and discuss how we can feel Heavenly Father’s love for us by seeing all the wonderful things He has given us. Sing “My Heavenly Father Loves Me” (Children’s Songbook, pg. 228) and share your testimony that Heavenly Father loves all of His children.

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.

“The Lord Looketh on the Heart”

Have you ever been jealous of your neighbor? The Israelites sure were. They wanted a king to rule over them as other nations had, believing that life would be better and more secure. However, when Israel’s prophet prayed about having a king as a leader, the Lord responded that the people’s jealous desire was actually a rejection of Him as their true King: “they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them” (1 Samuel 8:7). Their need for what others’ possessed had decreased their faith in Him.

“My Heart Rejoiceth in the Lord”

The Lord loved His people, the children of Israel. We read in Ruth that His love wasn’t just for the nation as a whole, but for each person individually who kept their covenants. Ruth is an example of a convert to the faith who trusted in the Lord to keep her and her mother-in-law safe during a famine. Ruth’s loyalty to God helped her see His blessings in her life and trust that even in an uncertain world, good things would come.

“The Lord Raised Up a Deliverer”

What does the perfect parent look like? Is it someone who never yells? Who is always present with their children? Maybe it’s someone who cooks food that the kids never complain about. The Book of Judges teaches us that even with specific rules and expectations, the children of Israel had a habit of returning to sin and idolatry time and time again. Even after they sinned or complained yet again, the Lord always invited them to start new and return to Him.
