Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 16 | April 13-19 | Exodus 14-18

Following the 10 Plagues and the crossing of the Red Sea, you would think that the Israelites were in a powerful place spiritually. They had seen incredible miracles and had sure witnesses that the Lord was with them. Yet, upon facing a shortage of food and water, the people were willing to abandon everything God had done for them and return to slavery: “Would to God we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt… when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness” (Exodus 16:3).

It’s easy to feel the same way sometimes. When blessings rain down, we appreciate them. When life gets hard, we plead with the Lord for relief. What we don’t realize is that the Lord defines His “blessings” as anything that brings us closer to Him. For the Israelites, living in the wilderness was supposed to bring them closer to God, even with the additional hardships. We must help our families see trials as things that can strengthen one another so that we don’t miss out on the blessings God is constantly giving us.

Come Follow Me FHE lessons include everything you need to make gospel study fun for your family! Empower your children to love the gospel with our scripture-focused lesson activities. Start your free trial now!

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Break the Code

Scripture Study

Break the Code, then read Exodus 14:13-14. Discuss with your family ways you have seen God help or uplift you in difficult times. You might make a list together of all the amazing things He has done for you. Recognize how God delivers us and brings peace to our hearts.

Parting the Red Sea

Hands-On Activity

Learn about Moses parting the Red Sea in Exodus 14:5-22 with your family. Then, try the fun Parting the Red Sea Science Experiment! Create your own “Moses” and watch as he parts the Red Sea through God’s power. Discuss what a miracle this was for the Israelites. When we need faith or courage, we can look to this example to remember that God has the power to deliver us from our challenges.

Manna From Heaven

Coloring Page

Read Exodus 16:31 about the manna and then complete the Manna From Heaven coloring page. Has God ever provided for your family what you needed when you needed it? Discuss how God is aware of us and our situations. He will provide for and bless us continually, just as He did the Israelites.

Toddler Bundle Lessons & Activities

For kids ages 1-4 at home and in nursery or sunbeams.

Gather Our Blessings

Family Activity

The Israelites remembered the blessings that came from Heavenly Father each day. They gathered the food He had given them to eat every morning. Heavenly Father provided quail and manna for their food. Do the Quail and Manna Activity by scattering the quail and manna around the room. Let your child gather the food into their baskets. With your child, count how many pieces they were able to gather. Explain that we “gather” our blessings when we recognize the blessings that come from Heavenly Father. Then, sing “I Am Glad for Many Things” (Children’s Songbook, p. 151). Share your testimony that we can show thanks to Heavenly Father for the many blessings He provides for us.

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.

“The Lord Is My Shepherd”

In modern times, the Lord declared “the song of the heart is a prayer unto me” (Doctrine and Covenants 25:12). In ancient times, songs, or psalms, were used to praise the Lord and remember His covenants with His people. Many Psalms are attributed to King David, whose relationship with God is one of the most detailed in the entire Old Testament. It’s no wonder David is thought to be the author of so many songs that praise the Lord for His strength, His mercy, His patience with His children, and His eternal love for all mankind.

“Yet Will I Trust in Him”

Job had many blessings in his life: a large family, a devoted spouse, and wealth that provided plenty and more for his household. Job gave thanks to God for his blessings, but even when nearly every blessing was taken away, he did not lessen his faith. Instead, as those around him said his faith had been a waste of time, Job showed his trust in the Lord by exercising Christlike patience and long suffering. Eventually, Job’s faith was rewarded, and his trust in God was justified.

“Thou Art Come … for Such a Time as This”

Esther never set out to be queen of the most powerful empire in the world. Born into servitude as part of a conquered people, the best life Esther could have hoped for would have been a quiet life far away from the homeland of her ancestors. Yet when trouble came, it wasn’t her beauty or good luck that saved her people’s lives; it was her faith in God. Through her trust in the Lord and her willingness to act in faith, Esther was able to accomplish much more than she could alone.
