“Beware Lest Thou Forget the Lord”

Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids

Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 20 | May 11-17 | Deuteronomy 6–8; 15; 18; 29–30; 34

Moses taught that faith is best nurtured through the natural rhythms of family life rather than through formal lessons alone. He commanded parents: “Thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way” (Deuteronomy 6:7). Integrating gospel conversations into daily activities helps our children guard against “forgetting the Lord” during times of ease and prosperity.

This teaching prepares children to “choose life” by loving God with all their hearts. By modeling service and a “willing heart,” we can lead our families toward Jesus Christ, the great Prophet whom Moses foreshadowed.

THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Reminder Watches

Scripture Study

Moses teaches us to keep the word of God in our hearts and listed some ways to remember the scriptures. He encourages us to have reminders all around us. Read Deuteronomy 6. Have your child choose a phrase from the chapter that stands out to them and write it on their Reminder Watches. Assemble the watch and have them wear it throughout the day to serve as a constant reminder of God’s word.

Helping Hands

Hands-On Activity

Read Deuteronomy 15:1-5 with your family and discuss how you can serve the Lord by being a “helping hand” to those around you. Talk about ways to show love and serve others as God’s children. Then, create a Helping Hands Wreath as a reminder of your commitment to serve.

Latter-Day Prophets

Surprise Activity

Moses prophesied that Jesus would come to teach the people and instructed them to listen to His teachings. Just like Moses, prophets today teach us about Jesus Christ and guide us to Him. Read Deuteronomy 18:15-18, and then create your own Latter-Day Prophet Book while you sing “Latter-Day Prophets” from the Children’s Songbook.

Follow the Prophet

Family Activity

Sing “Do As I’m Doing” (Children’s Songbook, p. 276) with your child. Encourage them to choose an action, such as jumping or stomping, and follow their lead as they show you what to do. Display a picture of the prophet along with a picture of Jesus. Explain that Heavenly Father has given us prophets to teach us about Jesus and to show us how to be more like Him. Read Deuteronomy 18:18, and share your testimony that when we follow the prophet, we become more like Jesus and receive blessings. Together with your child, engage in the Follow the Prophet activity while singing “Follow the  prophet” (Children’s Songbook, p. 110).

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.

“Rebel Not Ye against the Lord, Neither Fear”

Moses did not have an easy time being the Israelite’s prophet. From constant squabbles amongst the people to outright apostasy against the Lord, there was plenty of drama he had to deal with. As a prophet, Moses knew what the Israelites could be if they stayed faithful. He told Joshua it would be less of a struggle if everyone could see what the Lord had shown him: “would God that all the Lord’s people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his spirit upon them!” (Numbers 11:29).

“Holiness to the Lord”

Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, but he found that once they were in the wilderness, it wasn’t so easy to take Egypt out of the Israelites. Even with the many miracles and signs the people had witnessed, they still wanted to return to a life of slavery with every hardship they encountered. If the Israelites were to be the Lord’s chosen people, this could not be.
