Scripture Study
Discuss how a pencil can teach us about forgiveness with the Pencils and Forgiveness object lesson. Use pencils to read and study the scriptures in a fun and interactive way. As you read Lamentations 1:1-2, 16 and 3:22-26, observe how the Israelites might have felt when they did not repent and how these verses offer peace to those who have made mistakes. Jesus Christ made repentance possible for us.
Hands-On Activity
When you think about the love Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ have for you, how does it make you feel? Knowing the greatness of their love can lift and strengthen us. Read Jeremiah 31:3 with your family. Then, create the Christ Loves His People plate craft to help remind your children of Christ’s “everlasting love” and “lovingkindness.”
Surprise Activity
Our promises to Heavenly Father can bring peace and strength into our lives. It’s important to take time to understand these sacred covenants. After reading Jeremiah 31:31-34 and 32:38-41, play the Roll & Cover game with your family. Gather a pair of dice and some markers to cover the hearts. As you roll the dice, answer one of the three questions and discuss ways you can keep the covenants you make with God.

Family Activity
Cut a heart out of a piece of paper and write the word “Love” on it. Explain that Heavenly Father has an everlasting love for us. Read Jeremiah 31:3 together. He loves us at all times and in every circumstance of our lives. Play a
hide-and-seek game with your child by hiding the heart somewhere in the room and then finding it. Explain that when we seek God’s love in our lives, we will dis-cover that He loves us with an everlasting love. Bear your testimony that Heavenly Father’s love for us is eternal and everlasting.

Did you know that long before Jeremiah was even born, God already knew him and had a special plan for his life? (You can find that in Jeremiah 1:5!)
Isaiah taught more about the principle of fasting than any other Old Testament prophet, teaching that giving something up for the Lord is more than just going without food and drink. Its purpose is much holier: “Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free” (Isaiah 58:6). Fasting frees us from constraints on our spirit, allowing us to be more sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Ghost.
