“He Trusted in the Lord God of Israel”

Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 29 | July 13-19 | 2 Kings 16-25

Josiah was a righteous king of Judah. He desired to bring the people back into their covenant relationship with the Lord, yet there was no way to remember the Law of Moses: the people had forgotten it. However, when ancient scripture texts were found in the temple, Josiah was able to remind his people of the law and blessings of their covenant. The people began to feel God’s presence again as worship of the Savior resumed “with all their heart and all their soul” (2 Kings 23:3).

Do we ever feel like we need a spiritual reset? Just like Josiah, we should make every effort to return to the temple, look for God’s words in scripture, and commit to keep our covenants with Him. We will soon find ourselves back on track in our relationship with Jesus Christ.

Passage to Ponderize

Scripture Study

This week’s Passage to Ponderize will help your family memorize 2 Kings 23:25. Cut out the large square and fold it along the marked lines. Read it, write it, say it!

Secret Message

Hands-On Activity

Read 2 Kings 18:5–7 with your family and complete the Secret Message Craft using a white crayon and watercolors. Talk about how sometimes, when we ask for the Lord’s help, we may not see it right away—but He is always with us (p. 4).

Covenant Keepers

Surprise Activity

As a family, you will learn what a covenant is and how you can strive to make and keep covenants through the “Bee” a Covenant Keeper activity. In this activity, your children will look up scriptures that contain God’s covenants and discuss how they can be covenant keepers. You may read, listen to, or summarize the story found in 2 Kings 22:8–11.

In the Lord’s Hands

Family Activity

Trace your child’s hands on cardstock and cut them out. Let your child color and decorate their paper hands. Talk about the wonderful things we can do with our hands. Jesus’ hands are special, too. He holds all things in His hands, which means He is always caring for and helping us. Next, cut a long piece of paper about two inches wide and 12 inches long. Fold it like an accordion, then glue one hand to each side. On the paper, write the words, “All things are in the Lord’s hands.” Share your testimony about how all things are in the Lord’s hands.
