Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 40 | September 28-October 4 | Isaiah 40–49

There are stages in life that feel like they go on forever, especially in parenthood: sleepless nights helping kids stay in their own beds, potty training for weeks unending, and running to and from after-school activities. While the privilege of being a parent is a blessing, it can be exhausting just trying to keep up every day. Isaiah taught that when we feel like we have nothing left in us, we should rely on the Lord to give us strength (Isiah 40:29). After all, are we not caring for His children?

Isaiah helps us understand that to be the best mother and father we can, we should look to our Heavenly Parents. Like a shepherd, God cares deeply about each of His children who are trying to raise families in righteousness: “he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young” (Isaiah 40:11).

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

Witness of the Lord

Scripture Study

Read Isaiah 42:1–7 and Isaiah 43:9–12, and count how many times you find the words “servant” and “witness.” Talk about what it means to be a witness or a servant of the Lord. Explain that when we make covenants —like the covenant of baptism—we promise to be a witness of Jesus Christ. As you create the Baptismal Covenant Bookmark, discuss with your child the promises we make at baptism.  Keep the bookmark in your scriptures as a reminder to always be a witness of the Savior.

Surprise Activity

Jesus Christ provides many blessings, but for the Israelites in captivity, these passages offered comfort, hope, love, and strength. Read Isaiah 40:11, 29–31; and 41:10–13, 17–18 together. Discuss how Jesus is a source of comfort in our lives today. Share personal experiences or examples of how He has shown His love to you. Then, play “Jesus Is…” Four Corners to help your family remember these special truths.

Peace Like a River

Coloring Page

Take a moment to listen to the sound of running water—either from an audio or video clip of a river, or by creating your own experience. Let your child listen to or play in the water. Read Isaiah 48:18 and talk about how peace can be like “a river” and righteousness like “the waves of the sea.” Share personal experiences when you felt peace from choosing to obey God’s commandments. Then, color the “God’s Commandments Bring Peace” coloring page.

Comfort Through Jesus

Family Activity

Explain that Jesus will comfort us when we feel sad or frightened. He helps us feel safe and reminds us that everything will be okay. Sing “If You’re Happy” (Children’s Songbook, p. 266). Sing the song several times, changing the words to: “If you’re sad and you know it, think of Jesus” (point to a picture of Jesus), and “If you’re frightened and you know it, say a prayer” (fold arms). Remind the children that Jesus comforts us because He loves us by reading Isaiah 40:1 aloud. Invite the children to think of their favorite stuffed animal or teddy bear. Explain that while those items can bring comfort sometimes, the comfort Jesus offers is lasting and always available. Play the Teddy Bear Heart Matching Game while discussing ways we can find comfort through Jesus. Close by sharing your testimony that Jesus and Heavenly Father will always be there to comfort us.
