Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 50 | December 8-14 | The Articles of Faith and Official Declarations 1 and 2

Though we have reached the end of the Doctrine and Covenants, the work of the Restoration is still ongoing: “We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God” (Articles of Faith 1:9). Prophets still reveal the will of God. The Church is still growing to fill the Earth.

In our homes, parents still call upon the Lord to seek guidance in leading their families. The principles we have learned this year in receiving revelation apply to how we raise our children. Eternal truths matter, starting with, “We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost (Articles of Faith 1:1).

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

We have some great activities and resources to help assist you in celebrating a Christ-centered Easter this year! We recommend picking the activities that work best for you and your family. We think just a few activities will allow you to celebrate Easter, but also allow you time to focus on our Savior and what He has done for us. Our hope is that you will find something meaningful for your family to help celebrate this special holiday!

The 3rd Article of Faith

Coloring Activity

This week’s fun coloring activity focuses on the 3rd Article of Faith and will help your children see the connection between Jesus’ birth, Atonement and resurrection. As you color, work on memorizing the 3rd Article of Faith.

The 5th Article of Faith

Hands-On Activity

Read the 5th Article of Faith. Discuss how we have prophets and apostles in our lives who lead and guide us. Similar to the three wise men who followed the star to the baby Jesus in Bethlehem, we too can follow stars when we are hiking. We can look to the North Star, which will always lead you to the true North. Because of Jesus Christ and His Atonement, we have the chance to repent and turn toward Him in times of need, just like the star! Then, play the North Star Board Game as a family!

The 12th Article of Faith

Go & Do Activity

Read the 12th Article of Faith. Discuss as a family what type of government your have in your country. Do you have a President? King? Prime Minister? What about in your community? Do you have a mayor and city council? A court with a judge and lawyers? This article reminds all members of the Church to be law-abiding citizens and to honor and obey the law. Collect paper, envelopes, markers and crayons to write thank you notes to your local law enforcement and government officers.

Practice counting to 13 while your child jumps or claps. Next, introduce the numbers and have them practice counting to 13 by pointing to each number on the mats. Have your child place a small snack, such as a Cheerio, on each number as they practice counting. Read the Articles of Faith on the bottom of the mats. “The Lord Looketh on the Heart”

Have you ever been jealous of your neighbor? The Israelites sure were. They wanted a king to rule over them as other nations had, believing that life would be better and more secure. However, when Israel’s prophet prayed about having a king as a leader, the Lord responded that the people’s jealous desire was actually a rejection of Him as their true King: “they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them” (1 Samuel 8:7). Their need for what others’ possessed had decreased their faith in Him.

“My Heart Rejoiceth in the Lord”

The Lord loved His people, the children of Israel. We read in Ruth that His love wasn’t just for the nation as a whole, but for each person individually who kept their covenants. Ruth is an example of a convert to the faith who trusted in the Lord to keep her and her mother-in-law safe during a famine. Ruth’s loyalty to God helped her see His blessings in her life and trust that even in an uncertain world, good things would come.

“The Lord Raised Up a Deliverer”

What does the perfect parent look like? Is it someone who never yells? Who is always present with their children? Maybe it’s someone who cooks food that the kids never complain about. The Book of Judges teaches us that even with specific rules and expectations, the children of Israel had a habit of returning to sin and idolatry time and time again. Even after they sinned or complained yet again, the Lord always invited them to start new and return to Him.
