Tell the story of Rebekah at the well. Abraham sent his servant to find a wife for his son Isaac. The servant prayed for help to find the maiden that Heavenly Father wanted Isaac to marry. He waited at a well for a maiden to come that would give him and his ten camels water to drink. Rebekah came to the well and gave the servant and his camels water. The servant knew this was the maiden that Heavenly Father wanted Isaac to marry. Share your testimony that Heavenly Father helps us when we pray for His help. Play the “camel matching game.” Scan the QR code on your lesson plan page to learn some fun facts about camels.

Simplified Come Follow Me Activity

Read the picture story of how Rebekah came to marry Isaac. Then play the Serve Like Rebekah Board Game. As a family, discuss how we can notice service opportunities every day and choose to act upon them.

DO IT ACTIVITY:

This week you will have fun testing the will power of your children! In the “I Can Choose Eternal Blessings” activity, you will have the chance to discuss sacrifice with your family and what we might gain from sacrificing things now to qualify for eternal blessings later. You will need large marshmallows or your children’s favorite foods. See the “Go and Do Page” for full instructions.

CREATE IT ACTIVITY:

Read Genesis 26:1-5 together as a family. Discuss why the Lord said Abraham’s posterity would be blessed and how they would “multiply as the stars of heaven.” Then use the jello playdough recipe to make playdough and make as many stars as you can. See the Jello Playdough Stars page for full instructions.

See your lesson summary page and materials for more activities and QR codes to videos that go along with what we are learning about this week!

“Beware Lest Thou Forget the Lord”

Moses taught that faith is best nurtured through the natural rhythms of family life rather than through formal lessons alone. He commanded parents: “Thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way” (Deuteronomy 6:7). Integrating gospel conversations into daily activities helps our children guard against “forgetting the Lord” during times of ease and prosperity.

“Rebel Not Ye against the Lord, Neither Fear”

Moses did not have an easy time being the Israelite’s prophet. From constant squabbles amongst the people to outright apostasy against the Lord, there was plenty of drama he had to deal with. As a prophet, Moses knew what the Israelites could be if they stayed faithful. He told Joshua it would be less of a struggle if everyone could see what the Lord had shown him: “would God that all the Lord’s people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his spirit upon them!” (Numbers 11:29).

“Holiness to the Lord”

Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, but he found that once they were in the wilderness, it wasn’t so easy to take Egypt out of the Israelites. Even with the many miracles and signs the people had witnessed, they still wanted to return to a life of slavery with every hardship they encountered. If the Israelites were to be the Lord’s chosen people, this could not be.
