Tell the story of Rebekah at the well. Abraham sent his servant to find a wife for his son Isaac. The servant prayed for help to find the maiden that Heavenly Father wanted Isaac to marry. He waited at a well for a maiden to come that would give him and his ten camels water to drink. Rebekah came to the well and gave the servant and his camels water. The servant knew this was the maiden that Heavenly Father wanted Isaac to marry. Share your testimony that Heavenly Father helps us when we pray for His help. Read the picture story of how Rebekah came to marry Isaac. Then play the Serve Like Rebekah Board Game. As a family, discuss how we can notice service opportunities every day and choose to act upon them.

This week you will have fun testing the will power of your children! In the “I Can Choose Eternal Blessings” activity, you will have the chance to discuss sacrifice with your family and what we might gain from sacrificing things now to qualify for eternal blessings later. You will need large marshmallows or your children’s favorite foods. See the “Go and Do Page” for full instructions.
Read Genesis 26:1-5 together as a family. Discuss why the Lord said Abraham’s posterity would be blessed and how they would “multiply as the stars of heaven.” Then use the jello playdough recipe to make playdough and make as many stars as you can. The Lord loved His people, the children of Israel. We read in Ruth that His love wasn’t just for the nation as a whole, but for each person individually who kept their covenants. Ruth is an example of a convert to the faith who trusted in the Lord to keep her and her mother-in-law safe during a famine. Ruth’s loyalty to God helped her see His blessings in her life and trust that even in an uncertain world, good things would come.
What does the perfect parent look like? Is it someone who never yells? Who is always present with their children? Maybe it’s someone who cooks food that the kids never complain about. The Book of Judges teaches us that even with specific rules and expectations, the children of Israel had a habit of returning to sin and idolatry time and time again. Even after they sinned or complained yet again, the Lord always invited them to start new and return to Him.
Most of the Israelites heading into the Promised Land had been born in the wilderness. Few remembered the treacherous journey across the bottom of the Red Sea, yet all would experience the miracle again as they crossed the Jordan River on dry ground. This time, however, it was not a crowd of fleeing former slaves who worshipped golden calves. It was the camp of Israel, a covenant-making people who had proven their faithfulness to the Lord.
