Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids

Week 16 | April 12 - April 18

We have multiple Come Follow Me subscriptions and multiple activities in each subscription to help you find what works best for your family. Our goal is to help families come closer to Christ and we’ve worked really hard on providing more options to help achieve our goal.

Toddler Come Follow Me Activity

Talk about treasure. Discuss things like where you might treasure. On an island, in the sea, on a ship? Teach that Heavenly Father has taught us to seek for treasures like wisdom and learning because they are worth more than gold. Read D&C 38:30. We can “treasure up wisdom” by reading the scriptures and we get to keep these “treasures of wisdom” forever. Use the “My Treasure Box Activity.” Make the treasure box by following the directions on the page. Cut out the jewels and hide them throughout the scripture pages. Let your child search for the jewels and put them in their treasure box. Consider placing a jewel by your favorite scripture. When they find that treasure share the scripture with them. Help them finish fill their box by treasuring up knowledge as they read their scriptures.

Simplified Come Follow Me Activity

Read D&C 39:6. Use the “‘Rolls’ of the Holy Ghost” activity and discuss the different roles of the Holy Ghost. Think of examples in your life when the Holy Ghost has played each of these roles. You may even have an older child share any experiences they’ve had with the Holy Ghost. Make a treat and use the treat tag to give to a friend or neighbor. Consider doing a treat like hot cocoa mix or hugs.

CREATE IT ACTIVITY:

Read D&C 29-30. Use the “Preparedness Kit” to help your family understand what we can do to be prepared for hard times. Cut out the items and paste them in the preparedness kit. Discuss why it is important to be prepared, how we can be prepared physically and spiritually, and that when we are prepared we shall not fear. For an extra activity create a preparedness first aid kit for children’s backpacks. Some items you might include are band-aides, gauze, antibacterial wipes, triple antibiotic ointment.

DO IT ACTIVITY:

Make a 1 or spell ONE with your bodies. Read D&C 38:27. Discuss how the saints went in faith when they were asked to leave their homes and go to Ohio. During this time the Lord commanded them to be one. Discuss what it means to be one. Finish by making the “One In Christ Puzzle.”

“The Battle Is the Lord’s”

The story of David versus Goliath teaches many important principles, with one being that if we try our best and have real faith in God, He will help us make the most of our efforts. Though an army was present and he was offered the king’s armor, David brought his sling and his belief that the Lord would prevail through him. It was enough: “the Lord saveth not with sword and spear” (1 Samuel 17:47) but with trust and hope.

“The Lord Looketh on the Heart”

Have you ever been jealous of your neighbor? The Israelites sure were. They wanted a king to rule over them as other nations had, believing that life would be better and more secure. However, when Israel’s prophet prayed about having a king as a leader, the Lord responded that the people’s jealous desire was actually a rejection of Him as their true King: “they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them” (1 Samuel 8:7). Their need for what others’ possessed had decreased their faith in Him.

“My Heart Rejoiceth in the Lord”

The Lord loved His people, the children of Israel. We read in Ruth that His love wasn’t just for the nation as a whole, but for each person individually who kept their covenants. Ruth is an example of a convert to the faith who trusted in the Lord to keep her and her mother-in-law safe during a famine. Ruth’s loyalty to God helped her see His blessings in her life and trust that even in an uncertain world, good things would come.
