Between activities like school, work, and even church callings, we can easily get caught up in being so busy that we forget what it’s all for. No matter what we do for our family, what matters most is “why” we have our family: to live together forever in love and joy. Our Heavenly Father’s plan of salvation is how we can make that happen.
When the path toward that reward becomes daunting, or even seems impossible to continue, remember that it is through keeping His commandments that we can receive spiritual strength. He promises that “my commandments are spiritual” (D&C 29:35), and that we will be blessed with all that we need to feel His love and endure to the end.

Scripture Study
Heavenly Father loves all His children and will never leave or forget them! Hide plastic eggs around your house with the following keywords from the verse and then let your children gather them to keep them safe. Keywords: gather, hearken, voice, humble, mighty and prayer. After your children have gathered the eggs, place them under the hen as they read D&C 29:2 and discuss a chicken guarding her chicks.
Go & Do Activity
Prepare for General Conference by discussing why the words of our latter-day prophets and apostles are important. Discuss and plan goals of how to prepare and be ready to hear the words and counsel from church leaders. Read D&C 29:10 and think back on past Conferences and if the counsel has come to pass.
Surprise Activity
Learn about the atonement of Jesus Christ through this fun visual object lesson. During your Atonement Balloon Object Lesson, allow your children to take turns popping and attempting to pop the balloon while you discuss scriptures in D&C 29:36-50. End the lesson by reminding your children that through the atonement, we can always repent and be forgiven.

Hands-On Activity
Explain that we are all children of God and He wants all of us to live with Him again someday. We do that by following Jesus Christ. Read D&C 29:2. Invite your child to make chicken wings with their arms when they hear the word “gather.” Teach that to “gather” means to bring together. You could solidify this concept by having some toys strewn across the floor and invite your child to “gather” them. Show a picture of Jesus Christ. Teach that Jesus wants to gather us back to Heavenly Father. He wants all of us to live with Heavenly Father and our families forever. The way to do that is to follow Jesus and get baptized in His church. Following Jesus keeps us safe and will help us be happy. Explain that a mother chicken, or hen, gathers her chicks to help keep them safe. That’s what Jesus does with us! Teach that we need to help Jesus gather Heavenly Father’s children by sharing the gospel. Share your testimony about ways we can help gather Christ’s people, and about the safety and peace that comes from following Jesus. Then play the Gather the Chicks game together.

The Lord Jesus Christ was pleased to see saints gathering from many places as the restored gospel began to spread across the earth. As the Church grew, the Lord gave commandments to organize the saints. These commandments would encourage them to live in harmony with one another.
As the Lord Jesus Christ continued to reveal His restored Church through the Prophet Joseph, the early Saints were instructed to gather in Kirtland, Ohio, leaving behind their comfortable homes and businesses. The idea of living according to God’s way and dedicating their lives to the Lord was an exciting prospect for many of these saints. The sacrifices they made along the way were not easy, but their work still impacts our lives today through the global blessings of the gospel.
The First Vision wasn’t the only time Jesus Christ appeared to the Prophet Joseph. On Easter Sunday in 1836, the Savior stood in the Kirtland temple and declared, “For behold, I have accepted this house, and my name shall be here” (D&C 110:7). For the first time in millennia, a temple of God was again on the earth.
